Physical & Electronic Security Specialist

Black & Veatch is seeking an engineer to perform Physical and Electronic Security consulting, planning and design services with a focus on critical infrastructure sectors.

The role would be responsible for analyzing impacts and exposures based on emerging security threats, vulnerabilities, and risks. You will collaborate and work with individuals from various geographies and disciplines within Black & Veatch.

Key Responsibilities

Matrix Management

Consulting and Planning Capabilities

  • Facilitate client workshops to foster technical understanding and drive decisions.
  • Lead physical and electronic security assessments and gap analysis against best practices and standards.
  • Recommend physical and electronic security improvements aligned with risk management frameworks.
  • Develop security policies, procedures and controls for critical infrastructure sectors.
  • Collaborate with external and internal customers to analyze and validate the information needs and functional requirements.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert.
  • Design Capabilities

  • Lead physical and electronic security system designs.
  • Develop and review design documents including drawings and specifications.
  • Manage deliverables, quality, and budget.
  • Familiarity with the understanding and interpretation of building-design drawings to determine the consistency of contractual security requirements.
  • Follow engineering and customer standards for design documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership for site-survey, deployment, installation and configuration and support engineering teams.
  • Business Development

  • Support proposals and business development activities with Physical and Electronic Security scopes.
  • Develop and lead client presentations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across different business solutions engineering disciplines, and business enablement functions.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of associates in the organization.
  • Strong conceptual thinking the ability to conceptualize complex business and technical requirements into understandable models and examples.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with an ability to understand the "big picture".

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Certification such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), or similar certifications.
  • Professional Engineering license in electrical, control systems or related field or ability to obtain PE Licensure within six months.
  • Working knowledge of physical and electronic security standards and others as required by our clients.
  • Experienced in physical security design of cameras, access control systems, video surveillance / CCTV, threat detection and motion detectors in various facility applications.
  • Experience performing facility walk downs in support of design requirements definition and detailed engineering of design modifications.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working critical infrastructure sectors (Water, Power, Federal / DoD, Oil & Gas, Chemical, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS) and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) a plus.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles and the integration of cybersecurity measures with physical and electronic security systems
  • Working knowledge of NERC CIP as it relates to Physical & Electronic Security
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field such as Computer Science, Computer / Electrical / Communications Engineering, or other related field
  • MS Word / Excel / Bluebeam for project documentation
  • Willingness to travel (~20-25%)
  • You will be assigned to projects for U.S. Government Agency / Department clients. Thus, the candidate must be a U.S. Citizen

    Minimum Qualifications

    Work Environment / Physical Demands

    Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
