Chief Strategy Officer
Position Summary : The Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) serves as a key member of the university's executive leadership team, reporting directly to the President of UTHealth Houston. This position provides strategic vision, leadership, and coordination for institution-wide initiatives that advance UTHealth Houston's mission in education, discovery, and patient care.
The CSO leads the design and execution of major institutional goals and implementation plans to support UTHealth Houston's strategic objectives. Working in close collaboration with senior leadership across the university and its clinical partners, the CSO recommends, develops, and executes strategies that leverage the university's academic, clinical, and research strengths to promote growth, minimize risk, and maximize return on investment.
The CSO applies deep expertise in strategic planning, business development, and academic-clinical affiliations to identify and advance institutional growth opportunities. This includes fostering partnerships that strengthen UTHealth Houston's position as a leading health university and academic health system within the Texas Medical Center and across the Gulf Coast region.
Position Key Accountabilities :
- In collaboration with the President, Deans, and senior leadership, the CSO leads institutional strategic planning and annual review processes, ensuring alignment with UTHealth Houston's mission and long-term priorities.
- Evaluates and recommends opportunities for clinical and academic network development, affiliations, and business growth.
- Develops comprehensive analyses and business cases that provide data-driven recommendations for financial and resource investment decisions.
- Partners with executive and faculty leadership to translate strategic objectives into operational outcomes and sustainable growth.
- Serves as a trusted advisor to the President and leadership team, ensuring coordination across schools, departments, and clinical partnersincluding Memorial Hermann, Harris Health, and other affiliated institutions.
- Supports the integration of strategic planning with marketing, communications, and program implementation efforts that advance the university's visibility and impact.
- The CSO functions with a high degree of autonomy and serves as a key liaison between internal and external stakeholders to advance UTHealth Houston's mission and strengthen its academic-clinical enterprise.
- Manages Human Resources activities for direct reports in regards to : recruiting and selection; hiring and termination, training, development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
- Responsible for the design, execution and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded; financial information is reliable and compliant with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

Minimum Education : Master's Degree in Business, Public Health, Health Administration, or related discipline. required
Work Experience : 10 years progressively responsible experience in strategic planning, strategy development or business development to include leading business development or strategic planning efforts for a healthcare organization. required
