2 years of RN First Assist experience in General / Ortho OR.
Description :
The RN will utilize the nursing process in perioperative practice.
A thorough assessment of the patient's data will include physical, emotional, developmental, social, intellectual, cultural, and spiritual information.
The assessment will be documented on the patient's record during the perioperative phase.
The RN First Assist will organize the patient data and identify nursing diagnoses.
The RN First Assist will formulate a perioperative nursing care plan in collaboration with the RN circulator or other perioperative nurses.
The RN First Assist implements and coordinates the implementation of the care plan by performing nursing interventions.
The RN First Assist will continue to contribute to the patient's evaluation and care through discharge.
The RN First Assist will work in collaboration with other RNs in areas where the RN First Assist's expertise can contribute to patient care planning and outcomes.
The RN First Assist supervises personnel team actions to promote readiness and timeliness for surgical procedures.
The RN First Assist is aware of the appearance of various tissues and structures as they become visible during dissection techniques.
The RN First Assist can anticipate expected locations of tissue planes, neurovascular bundles, and visceral structures.
The RN First Assist demonstrates understanding important nursing interventions related to specific interventions such as positioning, skin prep, draping, special suture requirements, and special instrument and equipment needs.
The RN First Assist collaborates with the surgeon to plan for wound closure and special postoperative needs for the patient.
The RN First Assist applies principles of asepsis and infection control and must maintain knowledge in these areas.
The RN First Assist ensures compliance with strict aseptic techniques and monitors for breaks in aseptic technique.
The RN First Assist keeps current on practices and techniques by reviewing reports and attending educational offerings.
The RN First Assist has a working knowledge of methods of providing wound exposure.
The operative procedure, stage of operation, physical characteristics of the patient, types of tissue, location of tissue, anatomy, and pathophysiology must be considered when planning wound exposure techniques.
The RN First Assist uses manual and retraction instruments appropriately to improve visualization at the surgical site.
The RN First Assist ensures effective suctioning and sponging techniques to avoid tissue trauma or aspiration injury.
The RN First Assist has knowledge of methods of providing hemostasis and utilizes manual hemostasis, instruments for hemostasis, and chemical agents appropriately.
The RN First Assist serves as a resource to other perioperative staff members.
The RN First Assist applies universal precautions and infection control guidelines consistently.
The RN First Assist will utilize the nursing process effectively and efficiently during the perioperative experience.
