Crew Chief, Bureau of Veterinary and Pest Control Services

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygienes Division of Environmental Health works to prevent and control illness and injury related to environmental and occupational health risks through outreach education surveillance and enforcement. With staff of 1000 the Division covers a broad range of subject matter including oversight of environmental investigations lead poisoning injury prevention occupational health food safety childcare radiation control recreational and drinking water quality air quality climate health vector control veterinary public health and pest control. The Division of Environmental Health seeks a Crew Chief for its Bureau of Veterinary and Pest Control Services.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO :

Supervises work details to crew members Re-assess site to determine if it provides a safe working environment for staff. Provides and / or arranges transportation for the crew and enters the days work into the handheld.

Checks and maintains tool and equipment used in the field. Checks daily that all necessary safety materials and other supplies are on the site

Using the Burrow Rx machine and geomesh (Excluder) materials

PREFERRED SKILLS :

Knowledge of pest control and a valid Drivers license is a plus.

Qualifications :

Qualification Requirements

1. One year of full-time satisfactory experience in a rodent control program in cleanup extermination or community education activities related thereto; or

2. One year of full-time satisfactory experience performing work in one or a combination of the following areas including three months experience supervising at least three individuals :

a. Rodent or pest control

b. Trash collection

c. Street cleaning

d. Park maintenance

e. Building cleaning

f. Community service work dealing with groups and individuals

SPECIAL NOTE : For placement in Assignment Level III :

a) Four years of experience as a Supervisor (Pest Control) Assignment Level I or II; or

b) A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or

c) A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a States department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and five (5) years of full-time paid professional experience as described in (a) above at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory or administration capacity; or

d) A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.

However all candidates must be high school graduates or possess the

equivalent as described in (c) above and all candidates must have at least one year of full-time paid professional or administrative experience as described in (a) above.
