CommonBond Communities invites qualified applicants to apply for the Director of IT position at our Central Office site in Saint Paul, MN. The Director of IT is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing CBC's technology infrastructure, operations, and support to ensure IT systems align with organizational goals. This role will ensure all technical systems function efficiently and securely while driving continuous improvements that enhance operational effectiveness. In addition to setting strategy, the Director will take a hands-on approachassessing current systems, making informed recommendations, and directly implementing necessary enhancements. They will lead a small internal IT team and manage outsourced vendors, with responsibilities spanning strategic planning, technology oversight, project and vendor management, budgeting, security, and data management. The role also includes developing and maintaining disaster recovery and business continuity plans. They will be a proactive doer who is comfortable evaluating the existing technology environment as well as rolling up their sleeves to troubleshoot issues and implement solutions. Working closely with leaders across the organization, the Director supervises both internal and external resources, ensuring technology enables CBC's mission and long-term impact. This leader will balance high-level vision with hands-on execution to ensure systems are well-assessed, well-designed, and effectively implemented.
Reporting Relationships : The Director of IT reports to the Vice President of Corporate Services and is responsible for managing a team of 2 staff, comprised of one employee and one open position. The Director is also responsible for overseeing a large, outsourced vendor contract that performs the core functions of the IT department.
Key Accountabilities :
- Strategic Leadership :
- In collaboration with the management team, develop and execute a 2-year IT transformation roadmap and budget aligned with the organization's future state.
- Keep up to date with new and emerging technologies and recommend how they can be leveraged to improve business operations, including AI.
- Develop a robust communication plan to inform and educate stakeholders on the organization's technology and data strategy.
- Systems and Processes :
- Lead the plans to evolve the organization's operating system(s) and IT platform to support an updated business model.
- Oversee the implementation of a new system(s) and processes to ensure seamless integration across the organization, ensuring comprehensive engagement and adoption.
- Develop policies and procedures to support CommonBond's technology, application, and data activities with a focus on best practices and process improvement.
- Operational Management :
- Develop and implement strategies for design, development, and maintenance of technical infrastructure, including networks, servers, storage systems, and cloud platforms, evaluating an insourced versus an outsourced strategy.
- Establish IT performance metrics and KPIs to monitor progress and accountability.
- Maintain network infrastructure to provide uninterrupted access.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, industry standards, and best practices in data privacy, security, and disaster recovery.
- Implement and maintain robust security measures to protect the organization's technical infrastructure and sensitive information.
- Operational Oversight :
- Lead and manage the performance and integration of IT within the team and cross-functionally.
- Monitor and manage IT budgets, contracts, and vendor relationships to ensure return on investments are met and cost optimization is analyzed for responsible fiscal management.
- Evaluate and select vendors and service providers and manage vendor relationships to ensure effective delivery of technical services.
- People & Culture :
- Recruit, train and supervise internal IT personnel.
- Foster a high-performing culture both within the team and across peer networks.

Bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science, information technology, or related field8+ years of leadership experience in technical operations, infrastructure management, or similar roleDemonstrated success as a technology operations leader, including experience with cloud platforms, cybersecurity, network design and management, data management and AI integration, ERP system selection and implementation, and cybersecurityHighly developed communication skills, both written and oralExperienced vendor relationship manager in related fieldProven system integratorStrong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, coupled with strong project management skillsCommitment to the mission of affordable housing and community development.Certifications including ITIL, CCNA, CISSP are helpfulCompensation, Benefits & Work Expectations :
The expected compensation for this role is in the $150,000 $160,000 range. The actual base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may be adjusted based on the following considerations : job-related knowledge and skills, location, and experience. Additionally, CommonBond offers a comprehensive benefit plan. Details on the full comprehensive benefits offered will be provided. CommonBond follows a hybrid working model, and the Director of IT will be required to be in CBC's St. Paul offices a minimum 2 days a week. Occasional travel may be required for site visits, and vendor meetings.
