The Opportunity
Drive the process to acquire new clients and engagements and be responsible for all aspects of assigned engagements.
Direct the development of processes and techniques to improve operations and develop marketable service offerings.
Provide input on the strategic plans for the organization.
Utilize capabilities exhibiting thought leadership.
Provide technical or industry knowledge to contribute to the completion of all engagement phases.
Demonstrate capabilities with minimal oversight.
Scope and size of projects are generally large in size, high in volume or may own a significant portion of a larger project. The MD may lead a large-size effort or project team and delegate team work assignments through various phases of an engagement. They may manage projects from prospect to client deliverable. Must meet one or more criteria for Managing Director designation : either leads a significant number of direct staff (20+), runs a specific practice area, or manages one or more key strategic account relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to or lead the development and implementation of the strategic direction and objectives of a service offering or business line. Manage employees in engagements and provide input for performance management and compensation. Lead development of products and / or services. Guide the career development of other employees in the firm or provide mentoring.
May provide overall performance evaluation.
Evaluate employee contribution to specific engagements.
Create opportunities via engagement assignments for the development of an employee’s competencies. Matrix Management : Transfer knowledge, capabilities, and skills to improve others’ knowledge and skill levels.
Provide ongoing feedback to professionals on projects and their supervisors.
Complete project evaluation forms. Delegate work duties according to development opportunities and needs of individuals.
Leverage and maintain productive key relationships within client organizations. Seek opportunities with existing or new clients.
Actively pursue the acquisition of new engagements. Identify and address critical success factors for complex engagements.
Analyze and align solutions with the business objectives. Simultaneously manage multiple engagements, as necessary.
Secure receivables from clients during and after completion of engagements. Develop or encourage creation of profitable service products to be sold to clients in defined service offerings.
Lead delivery of innovative solutions from concept through implementation for client engagements. Serve as adviser to engagement teams. Lead quality reviews of assigned engagements.
Manage and lead all aspects of an engagement including staffing and operations as well as client relationships. Define and develop a knowledge management strategy and plan for engagements. Identify risks to the success of engagements and minimize or eliminate their impact. Manage multiple projects at any one time, as necessary. Manage highly complex or high volume of engagements with factors that may include enterprise-wide or multiple business units; manage other contractor / vendors on the project; high level of technology integration; or cross-functional and / or multi-dimensional teams.
Scope : Billable hours and business development targets established in annual goal setting process.
Management Responsibilities : May supervise work of others.
Responsible for hiring, discipline, and pay administration of their subordinates.
May have management responsibility for the people to whom they provide work direction.
Positions supervised include Analyst, Consulting, Sr; Analyst, Consulting, Consultant, Manager, Consulting, Principal Consultant and Director.
May also act as a project manager of a project team. Individuals comprising this team may vary by project.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience.
Successfully managed multiple engagements simultaneously.
Contributor or leader to acquire new engagements.
12-15+ years in a business / consulting environment.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree preferred.
Wholesale market knowledge preferred.
Generation, production, and distribution market and modeling expertise preferred.
Business development of 5+ years preferred.
Preferred skills : Extensive knowledge in area of specialization(s). Advanced business development capability. Accomplished project management skills. Business and consulting management skills. People management skills including recruiting, evaluation, and mentoring. Advanced knowledge in all aspects of consulting processes. Extensive client management and negotiation skills. Advanced knowledge of the marketplace. Advanced interpersonal skills.

Work Environment / Physical Demands
Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
