Job-Specific Responsibilities :

• Installs, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs building life-safety equipment and systems, including fire alarm systems, centralized emergency lighting systems and remote central station monitoring equipment.
• Performs all installation, maintenance, inspection and testing in accordance with applicable standards and requirements of the National Fire Protection Association, Life Safety Code (Massachusetts State Building Code) and / or established compliance requirements of the Authority Having Jurisdiction.
• Interprets and updates mechanical plans, drawings and prints as necessary.
• Required to assist in the inspection and testing of other fire safety systems including fire alarms, emergency generators, extinguishers and suppression systems, fire escapes, and hydrants.
• Performs other core skills of the trades and related duties as required.
• Must observe and comply with all standard safety codes and practices and perform work in accordance with recognized trade and University standards.
• Assists and advises customers on progress / status of work and provides responsive and effective customer support in all phases of FSS and building maintenance operations.
• Required to wear a clean, neat uniform and maintain a professional image at all times.
• Required to wear safety equipment and clothing when appropriate and / or required.
• May be assigned to work independently or as part of a multi-trade team under the guidance and direction of the FSS Supervisor, and / or Working Foreperson.
• May be assigned to perform any or all aspects of the FMO fire electrician position.
