Anticipated Salary : $150,000-$200,000 depended on experience. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.

About the Position :

The Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine at The Chicago School (IllinoisCOM) has achieved pre accreditation status and is preparing to welcome its first class in summer 2026. The College seeks an Associate Dean for Student Affairs to lead and integrate student affairs functions for IllinoisCOM and to shape a student experience that supports academic persistence, professional development, and the high standards of medical training. This work aligns with the University's mission to advance compassionate, patient-centered care that integrates mental and physical health.

Reporting to the Dean for Student Success, the Associate Dean will serve as IllinoisCOM's senior leader for student affairs, working collaboratively across the College and the University to ensure that the needs of medical students are met through coordinated, student-centered approaches. This leader will assess how University systems and processes can best support medical students and, when needed, help design or refine structures that address IllinoisCOM's unique needs. The Associate Dean will oversee readiness efforts, drive continuous improvement, and ensure that all student-facing functions meet standards of excellence in professionalism, inclusion, and service.

This is a full-time, on-site role at the Chicago campus. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.

Responsibilities :

Leadership and Strategic Direction

Provide vision, leadership, and coordination for all student affairs function within the Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine (IllinoisCOM).

  • Establish and maintain an operating rhythm that supports readiness, service quality, and accountability.
  • Lead collaboratively across the University and College to align student-facing work while adapting processes to meet the distinct needs of medical students.
  • Build effective communication and feedback loops among teams to ensure responsiveness, clarity, and coordinated action.
  • Promote a culture of professionalism, equity, and continuous improvement in all aspects of student affairs.
  • Represent IllinoisCOM in institutional and external settings related to student affairs.

Oversight of Student-Facing Services, Systems, and Resources

  • Ensure that student-facing services, systems, and resources are aligned and deployed effectively to meet the needs of IllinoisCOM students.
  • Oversee orientation, onboarding, communication, and engagement processes.
  • Collaborate with leaders and personnel engaged in wellness, accessibility, and conduct-related work to ensure coordinated, student-centered support.
  • Partner with faculty and University teams to maintain cohesive advising and coaching approaches that promote academic progress and professional growth.
  • Provide leadership for academic success, coaching, and retention efforts, ensuring that proactive systems are in place to identify and support students facing academic or personal challenges.
  • Serve as the principal point of escalation for student affairs matters within the College, ensuring student perspectives are represented in policy and curricular discussions and that issues are addressed promptly and fairly in coordination with University partners.
  • Provide oversight for the College's academic coaching model and Learning Communities to strengthen student engagement, academic progress, and overall persistence.
  • Oversee the alignment and deployment of academic support, leave of absence, and remediation processes to ensure continuity, compliance, and student success across the College and University.
  • Lead the development of programming that supports academic preparation, board exam readiness, and targeted interventions for medical students at both the individual and cohort levels.
  • Support timely, accurate, and student-focused processes for registration, scheduling, and other key administrative touchpoints.
  • Monitor student satisfaction and outcomes, working with partners to identify gaps and drive improvement.
  • Encourage and support student involvement in organizations, activities, and service initiatives that reinforce professionalism and community
  • Operations, Data, and Continuous Improvement

  • Implement and refine operating procedures to ensure readiness for each academic term and ongoing compliance with institutional and accreditation standards.
  • Monitor student progression and retention data to identify trends, evaluate intervention effectiveness, and inform ongoing student success strategy.
  • Coordinate outreach and follow-up for at-risk students through established University and College processes, ensuring that all intervention activities are tracked and completed in alignment with policy.
  • Use data, student feedback, and performance metrics to evaluate services and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage budgets and resources for student affairs initiatives, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities.
  • Identify risks, coordinate with compliance and policy leaders, and ensure issues are addressed promptly.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts that strengthen the quality and effectiveness of student affairs operations.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in relevant field or the equivalent in formal education and experience.
  • Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs or related areas of student engagement or academic support within undergraduate medical education (UME).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead in a matrix environment, collaborate across departments, and ensure standards are met.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Terminal degree, or the equivalent in formal education and experience.
  • Record of designing, improving, or building student affairs operations in new or evolving medical education programs, including the ability to deploy existing structures, adapt institutional systems, or create new ones to meet identified needs.
  • Experience supporting accreditation or readiness process in medical eduation (e.g., COCA, LCME, or regional accreditation).
  • Working knowledge of student policies and compliance frameworks, including Title IX, Title VI, ADA, FERPA, student conduct, and accreditation standards.
