Director of Supply Chain Planning – West Pak Avocado, Inc.
Summary
The Director of Supply Chain is responsible for using Sales and Operations Planning “S&OP” to balance supply, demand and capacity restraints, to optimize the entire supply chain process—from fruit sourcing to final product delivery. Reporting directly to the CEO, this leadership role is critical to ensuring operational efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and, most importantly, maintaining our industry-leading standards for customer service and order fill rates.
Primary Duties
- Develop and execute long-term supply chain strategies aligned with company goals, focusing on demand-supply balance, operational efficiency, resilience, scalability, and cost control.
- Design and manage sourcing, packing, and production schedules to align with sales forecasts and operational capacity.
- Optimize supply-demand balance to minimize excess inventory and reduce reliance on outside fruit purchases.
- Monitor perishable inventory closely to minimize aging risk and maintain freshness standards.
- Leverage technology—including AI, data analytics, and process automation—to improve supply chain balancing and overall efficiency.
- Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing supply chain team. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Logistics, Field Operations, Sourcing, Sales, Finance, and Quality Assurance to ensure alignment and responsiveness across the business.
- Analyze key supply chain metrics to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Monitor customer demand patterns to proactively anticipate supply needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility
The Director of Supply Chain Planning has approximately 4 reports including the Manager of Supply Chain Operations and three (3) Supply & Demand Planners.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field required; MBA or related advanced degree preferred.8–10 years of progressive experience in supply chain management, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.Experience in the fresh produce or food industry is highly preferred.Skills & Qualifications
Exceptional analytical skills and advanced Excel-based modeling proficiency.Strong financial acumen to support supply chain decision-making.Proven strategic thinker with a track record of designing and implementing high-impact supply chain initiatives.Excellent leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to build and manage high-performing teams.Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English is highly preferred.Strong problem-solving abilities with a data-driven, results-oriented mindset.Skilled at influencing executive and cross-functional stakeholders.Proficiency in ERP platforms, Microsoft Excel, Access, and other data analysis tools.Demonstrated ability to lead change and drive process improvements in a fast-paced, evolving environment.Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
The employee has extensive internal and external interfaces with others and the work requires continual problem-solving, the prioritization of tasks and projects, resolution of conflicting needs and issues, and the ability to read, analyze, and interpret trends and data.
The essential functions of this job require frequent sitting for prolonged periods of time as well as occasional standing and walking. Sensory demands require the ability to constantly hear and talk, both in person and by phone, and the ability to use a computer, calculator, and standard office equipment. Specific vision acuity required by this job includes close vision, the ability to adjust focus, and color vision when inspecting products. Physical demands include bending, stooping, and reaching above and below shoulder level in order to access records, as well as lifting and carrying files and documents typically weighing less than 25 pounds, with or without assistance.
