Detention Officer
The Linn County Sheriff's Office is seeking up to 6 Detention Officers. The Detention Officer performs work of routine difficulty involving custody and discipline of male and female inmates on an assigned shift. Work is performed under general supervision of a Deputy Sheriff / Sergeant. The following documents are REQUIRED and must be uploaded with an application :

Hourly Wage : New Hire : $32.72 1 year : $33.88 2 years : $35.06 3 years : $36.22 4 years : $37.40
Essential Functions
Processes inmates into custody, conducts searches of inmates, vehicles, packages, and equipment; inventories and takes charge of personal property.Supervises inmates during meals, exercise, work, recreation, personal hygiene, and related activities.Provides for the inmate's basic needs, physical safety, well-being, sanitary conditions, and ensures that pre-trial rights are adhered to.Maintains control and internal security of the Linn County Correctional Center through visual monitoring from restricted access control rooms.Patrols facilities and makes security checks; conducts rounds and inmate counts; inspects all areas of the Linn County Correctional Center for safety / security deficiencies.Responds in a calm, confident and organized manner to emergency situations such as alarms, altercations, or medical emergencies.Maintains logs, prepares reports, enters information into electronic record system.Distributes and administers medications to inmates as prescribed.Identifies serious or life-threatening medical conditions, makes the appropriate notifications, and administers basic first aid and / or lifesaving aid.Operates electronic doors, telephone systems, two-way radios, intercom, alarm systems, closed circuit TV systems, computer terminals, and other related equipment.Attends training and professional development classes.Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required.At least one (1) year of experience in a correctional center, detention center, residential treatment center, or similar environment.Additional education beyond high school in criminal justice or a related field may compensate for in whole or in part for required experience.Department of Corrections training preferred.Special Requirements :
Must be at least 18 years of age.Must be of good moral character.Must not have been convicted of a serious crime.Must pass a County physical examination which includes a drug test and psychological testing (MMPI) after offer of employment.Must pass a criminal background check after offer of employment.Polygraph exam will be administered after offer of employment.Valid State of Iowa Driver's License required.Ability to obtain and / or maintain certification in the following areas : CPR, Weapons, Jail Procedures, and Medication Dispensing.Must be able to work evenings / nights, weekends, and holidays.Voluntary overtime may be offered and forced overtime will be mandatory.Shift
