Military And Law Enforcement Officer
Performs the full spectrum of police officer duties within the assigned jurisdictions : Incumbent has full powers of apprehension and detention, which entails carrying a firearm, mirandizing suspects, preserving evidence and testifying in court as it pertains to enforcing regulations within assigned jurisdiction.
Conducts investigations / surveillance : Conducts investigations of crimes and complaints covering a wide range of subjects and allegations that are not within the scope of Air Force Office of Special Investigations(AFOSI) or the scope of the higher level detectives assigned to the Squadron.
Performs as Base Defense Operations Center (BDOC) Controller : Serves as the primary command and control (C2) function for all Integrated Defense forces.
Performs emergency response and incident command and control : Acts as the initial on scene commander for significant and catastrophic events (e.g. active shooter, terrorist attacks, and natural disasters) and initiates Air Force Incident Management System (AFIMS).

This position has been identified as a designated position under the Air Force Drug Testing Plan. Incumbent(s) of this position is / are subject to the possibility of a random drug test.
This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
Incumbent must qualify and remain qualified in the use of required weapons, as the incumbent will be required to use firearms in performing duties.
This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
Must pass an initial pre-employment medical examination, periodic medical examinations, required initial and annual physical fitness / physical agility tests to include running, meet established hearing standards and discern colors, contrast, and depth. The incumbent must immediately report to his supervisor any significant medical threshold shifts in health status and / or medication requirements.
Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain Secret security clearance associated with the position.
The incumbent must wear a DAF Police Officer uniform as identified in the DAF Police AFI and required to meet dress and appearance standards when supporting non DoD agencies IAW the AFI.
Must work an uncommon tour of duty, to include nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, rotating shifts, and recall.
Must wear approved protective clothing such as body armor / ballistic plates, helmets, personal protective equipment, coats, boots, traffic vests and / or chemical protective equipment, (e.g. respirator mask).
Incumbent must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate all security forces vehicles and installed equipment.
Subject to duty position evaluation on a pass / fail standard in accordance with AFI 36-2646, Security Forces Training And Standardization Evaluation Programs.
Must pass formal law enforcement training school as determined by AF / A4S and obtain DoD Peace Officer Standardization and Training Certification.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-0083, Police Series.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.
Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE : Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and / or competencies in the following areas :
Knowledge of law enforcement procedures, training requirements and operating methods required to perform the full range of police officer activities independently.
Knowledge of special operating requirements, methods, and procedures for enforcing specialized personnel access controls to prevent unauthorized access to areas where stringent security requirements are enforced.
Knowledge of appropriate use of force and self-defense techniques to protect oneself and others in threatening situations including the ability to subdue and control individuals as required.
Ability to operate motor vehicles have a gross weight of 7,000 pounds or less, loading capacities of 1ton or less, and 2 or 4 wheel drive to transport personnel and / or articles.
Ability to work and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community management, employees, and other law enforcement agencies.
