Job Summary Responsible for specimen collection, processing, testing, reporting, and quality control in a kind and caring manner. Responsibilities
- Properly start lab equipment daily; run and document controls; perform maintenance and cleaning of equipment as scheduled per written protocols.
- Greet patients upon encounter, verify patient identity at each encounter, explain procedures to be performed, obtain verbal consent, and address patient questions and concerns.
- Collect specimens from the patient utilizing the approved equipment, sequence, and procedure.
- Draw blood from the patient’s finger, ear lobe, or vein, observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood samples.
- Follow established procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results.
- Perform authorized tests within the technician’s skill level as determined by education, training or experience, and technical abilities.
- Report results timely and notifies providers of abnormalities.
Qualifications
- Phlebotomy certification preferred
- High school degree or equivalent
- 6 months to 1 year of related experience or training preferred
