The Florida Department of Transportation is seeking an Equipment Operator for the Tampa Operations Center. This position will be responsible for maintaining the state roadway systems. The work you will do includes :
- Performing minor maintenance and servicing work in connection with equipment operated and assisting in the repairs of this equipment.
- Operating vehicles and a variety of small and medium equipment that may include dump trucks, front end loaders, skid steer loaders, graders, lift equipment, small bulldozers, and asphalt repair trucks while performing bridge and roadway maintenance.
- Using a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways.
- Performing tree trimming, rough carpentry, masonry, painting, and / or assisting in the assembly and erection of highway signs.
- Performing Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).
- Assisting with crew activity reports as needed.

Operating a variety of hand and power tools.Operating and performing minor maintenance on small / medium equipment and vehicles.Ability to :
Operate a variety of heavy equipment.Read and understand job-related materials and fill out reports and forms.Maintain and repair highways, bridges, and / or other highway structures.Communicate both verbally and in writing, including following oral / written instructions.Develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.Lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds.Stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl, or bend on a frequent basis.Work outdoors in various weather conditions on various terrains and at various heights or in high volume traffic.Work independently.Stand for an extended period of time.Other job-related requirements include :
Responding to emergencies and being "on-call" (24-hour duty) when necessary.Possessing a valid Class "E" driver's license and obtaining a Class "B" CDL Instructional Permit within 60 days of appointment and a valid Class "B" CDL with air brakes within 10 months of appointment.Obtaining certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) Intermediate Level within one year and maintaining.Working with or around Department of Corrections inmates.Minimum qualifications include :
One year of experience operating small / medium equipment and vehicles.A Class E driver's license is required at time of hire.
