Job Summary :

The Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all people affected by lupus through programs of research, education, and advocacy. The Development Director plays a key role in successful achievement of all aspects of the Lone Star Regional operations, including revenue generation, leadership development, corporate engagement, constituent support and education, strategic planning and capacity building. The position reports to the Sr. Vice President, Network Development.

While the position is remote, the Development Director must reside in Texas – ideally Dallas, San Antonio or Austin. The role is community-based overseeing events and working with volunteers, participants and donors in the local markets.

The Development Director is responsible for all fundraising activities within the Region, including successful achievement of revenue targets for the Foundation’s Walk to End Lupus Now events, volunteer leadership and corporate development, donor prospect identification and planning and execution of the Region’s Lupus & You Empowerment Conference education events.

Key functions include working closely with volunteers to reach fundraising and participation goals, recruitment and management of high-level volunteers through committee development and cultivation, and corporate sponsorship and team recruitment. The Development Director is also responsible for regional constituent support and engagement, including education programs and partnering with the Director of Care and Support Services to support the Region’s support groups.

The Development Director will work in partnership with the Sr. Vice President, Network Development to expand the Region’s reach and impact with an eye towards developing new revenue opportunities and identifying and recruiting donor prospects and high-level volunteer leadership. The Development Director plays a key role in successful achievement of all aspects of regional operations.

This is a highly networked and collaborative position working with every department in the organization, including Care Support & Services, Research, Marketing & Communications, Advocacy & Government Relations, and Development & Fundraising.

Position Responsibilities :

  • Formulate, implement, and lead strategies and tactics for fundraising and development activities to ensure consistent growth including continued development of priority campaigns and identification of impactful opportunities with a goal of successful achievement of region success metrics.
  • Achieve assigned revenue goals by developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, constituents, sponsors, donors, committees, corporate and community partners.
  • Serve as the lead Development staff to drive revenue generation and retention for all Fundraising and Education events in the region.
  • Lead the planning and execution of Region’s Walk to End Lupus Now events, including participant and team recruitment, corporate sponsorships, venue, speakers and all communication and recruitment.
  • Provide strategic direction and active leadership for development activities such as corporate partnership and team development, volunteer leadership development, marketing, and communication programs.
  • Oversee constituent support, education and engagement efforts in the Region.
  • Partner with the Sr. Vice President, Network Development to identify and cultivate high-level relationship prospects and donors.
  • Lead the planning and execution of Region’s Lupus & You Empowerment Conferences, including securing sponsorships, venues, speakers and physician partnerships and all communication and recruitment.
  • Establish LFA presence in regional markets and develop relationships which will lead to future support, engagement and development opportunities.
  • Maintain detailed, timely and accurate database of relevant engagement information and acknowledgement of sponsorships, grants and gifts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in order to ensure the attainment of market financial goals.

Qualifications :

  • An experienced fundraising professional with a minimum of 10 years of experience in successful revenue generation and volunteer involvement.
  • Broad based fundraising knowledge, experience and skill in nonprofit management with emphasis on strategic planning, financial management, and market development.
  • Superior relationship development skills.
  • Ability to motivate staff and volunteers.
  • Effectively multi-task, establish priorities, and work in a fast-paced environment. Efficient in time management and can meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills. Demonstrate competency when handling diversified assignments.
  • Team player who can interface with all levels of staff and volunteers. Strong capability to leverage relationships and negotiate agreements.
  • Excellent written, oral, and communication skills.
  • Superior active listening, observation, analytical, and problem recognition and solving skills.
  • Ability to work and make judgments independently and take initiative.
  • Well-disciplined and a self-starter that is extremely resourceful.
  • Volunteer Health Agency background desirable
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Other Requirements :

    Knowledge of health and nonprofit issues is helpful.
