Pricing and Practice Manager :
Snell & Wilmer, one of the largest and most prestigious law firms in the Western United States has an opening for a Pricing and Practice Manager within the Phoenix office.
You will serve as a critical liaison between practice group leadership, firm administration, and individual attorneys to advance the firm's pricing and strategic practice management objectives. In this role you will report directly to the Director of Pricing and leveraging your strong analytical skills and deep financial acumen, to support executive decision-making and proactively drive financial best-practices across the firm.
You will proactively meet with partners to review their books of business, deliver pricing and market trends workshops, manage rate discussions with key firm clients and support the development and monitoring of attorney business plans. Key responsibilities also involve collaborating with practice group leaders to facilitate strategic planning processes, coordinating with firm leadership and practice groups to execute sound financial management of practice operations, and supporting the valuation and LPM aspects of the firm’s AI deployment initiative.
Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
Strategic Leadership - Practice Group & Executive Management Support :
- Serve as a liaison between practice group leaders and firm administration (accounting, finance, billing, information technology, attorney development, recruiting, marketing, etc.)
- Coordinate closely with Director of Billing and team to ensure billing, eBilling, hourly rates and other financial operations needs are met
- Support practice group leaders throughout annual goal setting process; manage group budgets
- Meet with practice group leaders regularly to inform practice group strategy, analyze profitability reports, assist with practice communication strategy, plan practice group meetings, support industry group needs, support retreats and conferences, etc.
- Drive business practices forward across the practice groups; solicit and deliver pricing and market trends workshops
- Proactively and independently identify and analyze problems, develop solutions and deliver results with a focus on administrative operational challenges and improvement of Practice Group financial outcomes
Attorney Stakeholders & Client Partnership :
Hold one-on-one business reviews with firm partners, providing specific, actionable insights to improve practice economicsPartner with the Marketing group to respond to all client RFP’s (request for proposals)Support development of partner and senior associate business plansPerform post-matter financial analysis and leverage historical data to improve financial performanceContinuously monitor write-downs, write-offs, discounts and other pricing structures to drive stronger practice economicsLead pricing discussions and negotiations with key firm clientsPerform analysis of and lead proposal for AFAs (alternative fee arrangement), including LPM support such as budget alerts and project coordinationPricing & Financial Excellence; Legal Project Management; Operations :
Lead the firm’s pricing strategy and annual rate structure review, utilizing industry benchmarking, to ensure the firm is competitively priced in each marketLead annual rates maintenance across key firm clients; Manage rates and analysis for lateral hires; lead firm's market rate initiativeLeverage data visualization to prepare reports and presentations intended for partners and key members of firm managementEnhance existing tools to support pricing and knowledge management (including matter plan task lists) to prepare for industry shifts driven by Artificial IntelligenceSupport procurement negotiations and pricing talks with firm vendorsIdentify, propose, implement and manage cost containment / recovery initiativesSupport the maintenance and development of internal team documentation and proceduresAI & Innovation :
Coordinate with CIO, practice group leadership and attorney pilot teams in support of AI deployment; Analyze pilot activity to inform pricing strategy, LPM implications and value proposition to clientsExperience and Qualifications :
4 to 6 years of business management experience; previous law firm or professional services experience preferredBachelor degree in finance, accounting, economics, or equivalent professional experience; Master’s preferred, JD a plus; professional certifications such as CPA, CFA, Six Sigma a plusDemonstrated success working with executive leadership and / or external client stakeholders, including : Delivery of presentations Reporting and ownership of special projectsAbility to work in a fast-paced environment and build credibility with partnersExcellent analytical skills and strong problem-solving instincts; demonstrated success working with complex, multi-modal data sets; strong excel skills, basic SQL experience required; Python, VB, MDX, Tableau experience a plusExcellent written and oral communication skills, superior organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines independently and proactivelyStrong computer skills including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPointSnell & Wilmer offers a competitive performance-based compensation and a generous benefits package starting on your first day.
