Job Description
The Junior Estimator supports the estimating team in the preparation of accurate and timely cost estimates and bid proposals for construction projects. This role is ideal for someone with a background in construction, engineering, or quantity surveying who is looking to build a career in preconstruction. The Junior Estimator will work under the guidance of senior estimators and gain exposure to all aspects of the estimating process including quantity takeoffs, subcontractor outreach, bid reviews, and data entry.
Key Responsibilities :
Quantity Takeoffs & Cost Estimating
- Perform detailed and accurate quantity takeoffs from architectural and engineering drawings.
- Prepare preliminary cost estimates for labor, materials, and equipment under the supervision of senior staff.
- Use estimating software and tools to input and update quantities, pricing, and other project-specific data.
Bid Preparation
Gather and organize bid documents including drawings, specifications, addenda, and RFI responses.Prepare and format bid proposals and supporting documentation.Assist in preparing bid packages for subcontractor pricing and review proposals for completeness.Subcontractor & Vendor Coordination
Contact subcontractors and suppliers to request quotes for labor and materials.Follow up to ensure timely receipt of pricing and clarify scope or exclusions as needed.Maintain organized records of subcontractor communications and bid tabulations.Bid level subcontractors and suppliers.Document Control & Data Management
Maintain and organize historical cost data, unit price databases, and project estimate files.Assist in tracking and updating cost trends, market pricing, and vendor information.Support the preparation of post-bid analysis and lessons learned reports.Team Collaboration
Work closely with our pre-construction team to support bid efforts.Participate in internal estimate reviews, pre-bid meetings, and transition meetings.Support multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.Required Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree (or in progress) in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field. OR Relevant technical diploma with estimating experience.1–3 years of relevant experience in estimating, construction, or project coordination.Strong mathematical and analytical skills.Basic understanding of construction methods, drawings, and materials.Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.Willingness to learn estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Procore, On-Screen Takeoff).Excellent organizational and time-management skills.Compensation & Benefits :
