ELM Adjunct Faculty-College of Nursing
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Nursing Academics, Program Director, or Chair, Nursing Faculty supports the University’s mission by facilitating student learning aligned with course and program outcomes. The role provides leadership as an educator, mentor, and role model, fostering an innovative and accountable academic environment. Faculty contribute program-specific expertise, participate in departmental initiatives, assess student learning to ensure outcome achievement, and uphold academic integrity while supporting institutional and accreditation goals.
INSTRUCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
Fulfills assigned teaching loadParticipates in and contributes to assessment activities of courses / curriculum and program via a continuous improvement plan as set forth by the UniversityContributes regularly to the improvement or updating of class materials and syllabi within the prescribed shared governance culture as applicable to assigned responsibilitiesUtilizes a variety of teaching methodologies to instruct students, with the intent to facilitate observable evidence of student fulfillment of prescribed learning outcomesDemonstrates enthusiasm for teaching and the teaching / learning process and for individual studentsKeeps regular approved office hoursFollows established University protocols for providing timely feedback and / or academic advising (i.e., Grades in Progress, student Letters of Concern, etc.)Capable of competence in teaching skills as demonstrated by :student evaluationspeer evaluationsself-evaluationadministration reviewsevidence of student achievement of course student learning outcomes.Mentors and takes an active interest in studentsExplores scholarly research to improve teaching and instructionExplores cross-disciplinary approaches to instructionPROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND SERVICE :

As applicable to teaching assignment, records and posts daily class attendance and grades as required, completes and submits assignments in a timely manner, and grades tests, quizzes, lab assignments promptly, returning constructive feedback to students as soon as possible. Engages in systematic collection of student’s work for University outcomes assessment purposesMaintains and uses University approved syllabus template and prepares / distributes syllabi in a timely fashionSubmits accurate grade-in-progress report(s) as required during the term / semester in accordance with the posted syllabus to the campus program Dean or ChairPosts accurate points and final course grades earned throughout the term / semester in accordance with the posted syllabus as per teaching assignment(s)Assists with program activities to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, accrediting bodies, and University policies and procedures in concert with other University campus programsReviews and recommends improvements and enhancements to the consistency and quality of course offerings, course / program development, and curriculumParticipates in student success activities such as engaging in student academic counseling and / or establishing a point of contact for access to internal resources for student issuesAssures students are provided instructional support services within the subject area taught to maintain the highest level of student achievement while safeguarding the integrity of the educational processServes as a mentor, role model and facilitator and provides guidance and academic support for studentsAttends meetings as required to share information, guidelines and procedures, coordinates activities, and to further disseminate information across the assigned departmentRegularly attends and participates in Practice Learning CommunityFollows proper procedures and channels of communicationParticipates in professional development opportunities and professional organizations in order to remain current in assigned fieldMaintains professional appearance for position and is courteous and approachable to studentsEnsure the maintenance and timely update of all requirements (i.e. physical, immunizations) and annual competencies essential for fulfilling job functions.Adheres to University policies and procedures and conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the University’s Code of Ethical Conduct, Compliance Agreement, Sexual Harassment Policy or any of its policies and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, and applicable professional standardsMaintains regular and timely attendance, reports to work as scheduled and assures time worked and / or time-off is recorded properlyMaintains confidentiality of all student, associate, and / or University information as requiredExercises care, proper use and maintenance of department equipment and supplies and identifies unsafe conditions and makes appropriate adjustmentsMaintains order, cleanliness and safety at workPerforms other duties as assigned.Requirements :
Master’s degree in NursingCurrent unencumbered Registered Nurse LicenseMust meet the Board of Registered Nursing requirements as stipulated in their statutes :1425(c) An i nstructor shall meet the following minimum qualifications : (1) The education requirements set forth in subsection (a)(1); and (2) Direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years in the nursing area to which he or she is assigned, which can be met by : (A) One (1) year's continuous, full-time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in the designated nursing area; or (B) One (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area or its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency; and (3) Completion of at least one (1) year's experience teaching courses related to registered nursing or completion of a post-baccalaureate course which includes practice in teaching registered nursing.1425(d) An assistant instructor shall meet the following minimum qualifications : (1) A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college which shall include courses in nursing, or in natural, behavioral or social sciences relevant to nursing practice;(2) Direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years in the nursing area to which he or she will be assigned, which can be met by : (A) One (1) year's continuous, full-time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in the designated nursing area; or (B) One (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area or its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency.1425(f) A content expert shall be an instructor and shall possess the following minimum qualifications : (1) A master's degree in the designated nursing area; or (2) A master's degree that is not in the designated nursing area and shall : (A) Have completed thirty (30) hours of continuing education or two (2) semester units or three (3) quarter units of nursing education related to the designated nursing area; or have national certification in the designated nursing area from an accrediting organization, such as the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC); and (B) Have a minimum of two hundred forty (240) hours of clinical experience within the previous three (3) years in the designated nursing area; or have a minimum of one (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area within the previous five (5) years.Must meet and maintain the qualifications and standards set forth by the state Board of Nursing for nursing faculty if required for assigned subject matter instruction.Preferred Qualifications :
Experience in teaching nursing skills lab including simulated learning environmentsPrevious teaching experience including curriculum development, assessment and evaluation.Ability to navigate electronic learning platformsProficient in Google and Microsoft SuitesPost master’s certificate in nursing education, doctoral degree in nursing practice (DNP), and / or PhD in NursingLIMITATIONS AND DISCLAIMER :
