The Welder is responsible for using appropriate welding methods to attach pieces of materials to build or fabricate finished products and / or parts as well as setting up and adjusting specific welding equipment for the type of welding to be performed. The Welder should be able to read and / or listen to instructions, examine prints or plans, and measure and lay out materials. The welder will perform welds that are appropriate and acceptable in penetration and appearance for the products fabricated.
Essential Responsibilities
- Will be required to visually inspect tools and equipment for safety and proper operation at the beginning of each shift. Notifies supervisor or maintenance of needed repairs or replacements
- Ability to learn how to properly install bearings, bushings, and sheaves using manufacturer specifications
- Ability to learn how to safely operate hydraulic cylinders and lifts
- Sets temperatures and gas gauges on welding equipment
- Ability to read instructions or plans, measures, holds, and positions materials
- Ability to lift, move, stack, position, align, and fit together metal parts according to instructions or plans
- Ability to properly place parts and materials in a jig
- Ability to safely and properly operate an overhead crane to position heavy materials
- Ability to safely and efficiently weld seams of parts together using proper techniques for the job assigned
- Ability to safely operate grinders or other proper tools to remove rough edges, surplus metals, surplus weld, or scale
- Maintain and use all required personal protective equipment as outlined in the Diamond Z Safety Manual
- Understand and follow all Diamond Z safety policies and procedures
- Perform other tasks as assigned or needed
