Position Summary

The Unit Leader for the Medical-Surgical unit plays a critical role in supporting bedside nurses to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care. Working closely with the Nurse Manager, this role utilizes strong leadership and communication skills to promote positive change within the unit.

Aligned with the mission of White Plains Hospital and the Nursing Division, the Unit Leader serves as a role model by demonstrating effective time management, conflict resolution, and delegation abilities. The position acts as a central liaison among nursing staff, physicians, patients and families, ancillary departments, and hospital leadership.

The Unit Leader leads by example and holds staff accountable for maintaining patient safety, operational efficiency, and high levels of patient satisfaction.

Education & Experience Requirements

• Active New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License required.
• BSN (or MSN) required.
• BCLS certification required.
• Knowledge of current nursing, medical, and healthcare trends in patient care.
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience in the specialty area preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in the unit specialty preferred.

Prior leadership or management experience preferred.
