Pay Rate : Worker 1 : $18.69 - $26.16 per hour Work 2 : $20.37 - $28.52 per hour Pay is dependent on experience and qualifications with starting pay not typically above the mid-point of the range.

Job Summary
The position will be filled by an efficient individual, who is safety-minded and has the desire to grow. This position will work under general supervision from the Urban Forester and immediate supervision of the Lead Arborist, performing entry level urban forestry work.
Essential Functions
- Participates in city-wide urban forestry program, documents tree inventory; tree removal, pruning, stump grinding and chipping. Capacity for focus on the task at hand and able to be aware of their surroundings. Work zone safety setup including but not limited to the placement of cones and signs, gear stations, and moving or marking targets within the drop zone
- Performs and coordinates general landscape and gardening duties; plants and transplants trees, shrubs, bushes, grass, flowers etc. as directed to develop attractive parks and grounds; performs various fertilization techniques using dry and liquid chemicals
- Operates a variety of types of small, light and heavy equipment such as mowers, sod cutters, chain saws, chippers, stump grinders, backhoe, loaders, mini-excavators, trenchers, aeration tractor, and various hand tools; performs routine and regular maintenance on equipment to assure efficiency and safety
- Participates and identifies need to initiate various aspects of programs related to the prevention or eradication of pests that may be harmful to trees, shrubs and other environs; selects appropriate chemicals and combinations to accomplish task; maintains records of spraying activities; assures chemicals are properly stored and used in conformity with city, state, or federal regulations; operates spray or injection equipment
- Physical stamina and strength to carry out physical labor and lift heavy loads. Frequent standing, squatting, bending, walking, lifting heavy objects, properly loading, and unloading, all while being exposed to adverse weather conditions (rain / snow and extreme heat / cold). The noise level in the work environment is usually high
- Participates in various ongoing and seasonal projects; performs day-to-day and seasonal duties such as assists in daily maintenance of all City parks, buildings and City right of way streets, or open space; performs general parks building maintenance; may assist in framing, painting, roofing or other skilled construction and maintenance activities related to carpentry, plumbing, and electrical; performs concrete and masonry work; assist with reservation cleaning and coordination for park pavilions; maintains a safe, clean trail system
- Performs seasonal duties such as installation and removal of Christmas decorations; engages in snow removal clearing steps, sidewalks parking lots, etc.; may use cutting torch to perform metal fabrication for snowplows, grasshopper sweepers, salt spreaders, etc.
- Performs general cleanup, maintenance, and repair of restrooms, pavilions, playgrounds, picnic tables, benches, bleachers, ball fields and other facilities; installs signs and decals
- Participates in the preparation, set up, and tear down for city events, including but not limited to, concerts, art shows, rodeo, Veterans' Day, July 24th, Halloween, Memorial Day, etc.; ensures proper operation of various components of facilities, i.e., electrical, climate controls, sound system, etc.; stage operations during special events

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience : A. Graduation from high school, or the equivalent combination of education, B. Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance, upkeep, and beautification of trees, shrubs, and related environs.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : A. Working knowledge of maintenance equipment such as chainsaws, chippers, bucket trucks, boom lifts, stump grinders, backhoe, loader, dump truck, mowers, tractor, trimmers, etc.; of hazards and related safety precautions associated with equipment operations; of herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, and pesticides, and proper application of the same; of interpersonal communication skills. B. Ability to recognize hazards in trees, identify common pests; ability to recognize and identify diseases common to trees and shrubbery; ability to effectively apply chemicals for the abatement and eradication of noxious pests; effectively, ability to communicate verbally and in writing; ability to develop effective working relationships with supervisor, subordinates, and the public.Special Qualifications : Valid Utah Driver's License with a Commercial Driver's License. Certification through the International Arborist Association is desirable, but not required for hire. A Utah Non-Commercial Pesticide license within 3 months of hire.Work Environment : Incumbent of the position generally performs in a physically demanding environment. Tasks require variety of physical activities, generally involving some muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting, etc. Talking, hearing and seeing essential to the performance of the job. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity exist. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. Frequent local travel required in normal course of job performance. Employment in this position is conditional upon passing a pre-employment background and drug test.
