Medical Laboratory Scientist – Group Lead
Location : Grand Rapids, MI
Schedule : Monday–Friday, 7 : 00 AM – 3 : 30 PM (Weekends as needed)
Pay Range - $56-$65pr hr
Job Overview
The Medical Laboratory Scientist Group Lead is responsible for overseeing daily laboratory operations, ensuring accurate and timely test results, and providing leadership to the laboratory team. This role supports workflow coordination, quality control, and compliance with regulatory standards while serving as a technical resource for staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily Operations Management : Oversee and coordinate workflow for the assigned laboratory section to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
- Technical Leadership : Serve as subject matter expert for testing procedures, troubleshooting issues, and assisting team members with complex cases.
- Quality Control & Compliance : Monitor QC processes, ensure adherence to CLIA, CAP, and OSHA regulations, and help maintain required documentation.
- Training & Mentorship : Train new hires, support ongoing staff development, and provide performance feedback.
- Specimen & Testing Oversight : Verify specimen integrity, monitor turnaround times, and ensure accuracy in all laboratory results.
- Instrument Management : Oversee maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory analyzers and equipment.
- Collaboration : Work closely with supervisors, technologists, and other healthcare teams to support patient care.
- Process Improvement : Identify workflow gaps, propose solutions, and assist in implementing process enhancements for greater efficiency.
- Weekend Support : Provide coverage or leadership support on weekends as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field.ASCP certification (MLS or MT) required.Minimum 2–4 years of progressive laboratory experience; leadership or lead-tech experience preferred.Strong knowledge of laboratory testing principles, QC, and regulatory requirements.Excellent communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
