Specialist, Public Policy & Business Advocacy - (Lansing based)

The Detroit Regional Chamber in Detroit, MI is looking to hire a full-time Public Policy and Business Advocacy Specialist who will serve as a part of the Chamber's Public Policy team in Lansing. Do you have a strong working knowledge of local government and public policy? Do you have excellent interpersonal and professional presentation skills? This position will work to support the Chamber's public policy team and will represent the Chamber's interests in government. This position earns a competitive salary of up to $60,000 a year . A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PUBLIC POLICY AND BUSINESS ADVOCACY SPECIALIST

In this position, you play a vital role in the operations of our nonprofit as you will work to support the Public Policy team by creating agendas for weekly meetings, represent the Public Policy team in internal meetings in the Detroit office, develop relevant content for E-news, blogs, analysis and public letters. You will attend political events and fundraisers as a representative of the Chamber. You will work with other Chamber team members, and volunteer Chamber leadership to support functions for the political action committee and assist in planning the annual PAC reception at the Mackinac Policy Conference and the Detroit Policy Conference

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A PUBLIC POLICY AND BUSINESS ADVOCACY SPECIALIST

The person in this position should possesses an interest in government relations and public policy. This position will be based in Lansing but requires (reimbursed) travel to Detroit.

  • 1-3 years' experience in administrative, customer service and / or project management
  • Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal and professional presentation skills including project and time management
  • Exhibit personable demeanor and ability to interact with and provide exceptional customer service to external clients and internal team members at all levels.
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision and be able to
  • Excellent time management, attention to detail / accuracy and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate willingness to accept responsibility, to take initiative, to be adaptable and flexible, to use sound judgment, and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite - specifically Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of social media and digital media platforms preferred.
  • Knowledge of political action committee and lobbying rules preferred

WORK SCHEDULE FOR A PUBLIC POLICY AND BUSINESS ADVOCACY SPECIALIST

This position is full-time and typically works Monday - Friday, 8 : 30 AM - 5 : 00 PM . This position will primarily work from our Lansing office however travel to Detroit and some evening responsibilities will be required . There are also opportunities to work from home.
