Job Summary
Dominion Energy (DE) owns and operates an internal DWDM network consisting of 18 DWDM nodes. DE’s IT-Telecommunication’s Transport Network Services group provides engineering support for all aspects of design, deployment, and operational support of the DWDM network and associated services.
Candidate will have a strong background in DWDM and Lightwave Propagation over fiber optic cable and have some Project Management experience. Additionally, successful candidates will possess the following skills :
- Working with assigned project managers, provide guidance on DWDM node and hardware additions to the existing DWDM network
- Order parts, circuit packs, components, software, and associated hardware and ancillary equipment within the prescribed budget
- Track project-specific labor and equipment spending under Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) tracking
- Interface with Business Unit customers to determine circuit type needs
- Design solutions to meet those needs
- Perform software and system upgrades as required / scheduled
- Maintain servers supporting Ciena DWDM
- Specific experience with Ciena DWDM hardware, Orion software, and Circuit Vision documentation software is preferred.
- Works with multiple business units on multi-project assignments.
- Mentors and advises less experienced Network Analysts.
- Success determined upon project's progress and results. Errors may cause significant delay, expense, and disruption.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Sr Network Analyst : 5+ years of experience or Network Specialist : 7+ years of experience working with deployments of DWDM network infrastructure and services and be able to demonstrate :
Expert-level knowledge of DWDM theory, DWDM hardware design concepts and service design optionsExperience with Nokia 1830 Photonic Service Switch platform preferred but solid background with other vendors’ DWDM products will be consideredWorking knowledge of transport system timing protocolsStrong oral and written communication skillsEffective computer skills including detailed knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Products : Visio, Power Point, Excel, Word, and OutlookAbility to function effectively within a team environmentKnowledge of Layer 2 / 3 services including protocols such as LLDP, BFD, ISIS, OSPF v2 / 3, BGP, Virtual Private Routed Network (VPRN), Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS), Virtual Leased Line (VLL) like e-pipe, i-pipe; Circuit Emulation services like c-pipe; QoS (network and services), IP filters, security features / concepts, and CLI proficiency are all a plusKnowledge of Circuit Vision, SolarWinds Orion, Ciena MCP also a plusWorking knowledge of IT media transport such as inside / outside plant fiber, microwave (RF), cellular (LTE), etc. a plusAdditional Information :
Dominion Energy is currently observing a hybrid schedule alternating one week in the office and one week remote.
Typical working hours are, but are not limited to, Monday thru Friday, 7 : 00am to 4 : 30pm.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education.
Preferred disciplines : Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or Business or technical equivalent.
Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above.
