The duties of a DCI Victim Witness Specialist include providing direct services to victims of crime; act as the liaison between the victim the prosecutor and law enforcement officials; advise victims of legal proceedings and assist as they navigate through the criminal court process; accompany victims in criminal proceedings as requested; assist in determining the amount of monetary damage suffered by the victim; participate in the training of law enforcement and the general public regarding the victimization process victim needs and issues; assist in filing compensation claims.

A firm understanding of the criminal justice system and the criminal justice process. The ideal candidate will be kind caring and empathetic

Knowledge of :

• the role and function of law enforcement judicial and legal agencies;
• basic judicial procedures and court documents;
• the principles of interviewing and other information-gathering techniques.

This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.

This position is eligible for Veterans Preference per ARSD 55 : 10 : 02 : 08.
