Director of Annual Giving and Senior Development Officer

The Director of Annual Giving and Senior Gift Officer oversees the organization, planning, and execution of annual giving programs and team to expand annual giving by all constituents to the college. Serves as a member of the major gifts team with emphasis on securing gifts and pledges primarily in the $1,000 $1 million range. This position is responsible for procuring annual, restricted and deferred gifts to the College in accordance with the department's goals. Supervise three staff members including assistant director of annual giving, associate director of annual giving, development assistant, and student employees.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive program of individual gifts fundraising, with a focus on annual giving. Engaging in strategic planning and program management. Lead the Annual Fund team and efforts to reach participation and dollar goals as well as the overall advancement of Rhodes development and constituent engagement efforts.
  • Recruit, educate, manage, motivate, and evaluate Annual Fund staff.
  • Serve on one-day challenge leadership teams for both any annual giving effort which currently includes the Athletic and Annual Fund days of giving.
  • Cultivate and maintain favorable relationships with a portfolio of prospects and donors to make philanthropic investments in Rhodes. Solicit major and deferred gifts and leadership annual gifts. This requires intense focus on one-on-one visits with assigned prospects and donors, developing strategy, designing proposals and closing gifts. Provide excellent stewardship to donors in recognition of their investments.
  • Meets goals for annual donor visits, solicitation, proposals delivered and closed gifts.
  • Work with members of the division staff to broaden the base of gift prospects and to develop appropriate programs to meet the College's highest funding priorities, which will include a comprehensive capital campaign. Run mini campaigns and project as assigned.

Job Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree, Advanced degree preferred.
  • Four (4) years of development experience required including demonstrated success in closing annual, major and deferred gifts preferably at an educational institution preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities, to solve problems and demonstrate leadership skills is required.
  • Ability to relate well to the public is a must.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office required.
  • This position requires a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and must be insurable by the College's insurance carrier.
  • Extensive travel at times is required; as well as occasional night / weekend responsibilities.
  • Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background screening, which includes a credit history check in accordance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and applicable state laws. This is required due to the financial responsibilities involved in this role.
