Overview
Environmental, Operations and Construction (EOC) operates within HDR’s Federal Business Group, capable of delivering services across all HDR business groups at any location. Our work is performed by our professional staff, scientists and engineers at remote sites, embedded in client office space or our own facilities. EOC delivers quality engineering, environmental, and construction management services at competitive prices.
In the role of Civil Designer, we'll count on you to :
Provide code compliant repair solutions for failing pavements, foundations, drainage, etc. for facilities, runway / taxiways, and road infrastructure
Develop and produce engineering specifications and cost estimates using specifications guides, engineering handbooks, building construction cost data, manufacturers publications, engineering standards for types of materials, fire and safety codes, and other published material
Review engineering plans and specifications for compliance with federal and state regulations and ensures that design formats comply with applicable guidance
Participate in the construction planning process by investigating proposed projects to obtain field data, check existing facilities and utilities, and to conceptualize the scope of the completed project
Furnish sketches and layouts supplemented by verbal or written information for preparation of drawings
Prepare modification / alteration design specifications considering existing structures, utilities, facilities and other considerations of projects that are not readily apparent
Apply practical knowledge of engineering methods, techniques, architecture, and historical project data to ensure project requirements are complete
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration
A minimum of 10 years' experience in civil engineering pavement (concrete & asphalt) / earth work related construction planning and application
Prior military experience as a Civil Engineer Pavement & Equipment Craftsmen (PRIME BEEF, RED HORSE, or SEABEE)
Knowledge of design and construction of Department of Defense facilities
Knowledge of the Internal Building Code, NFPA Life Safety Code and Unified Facilities Criteria
Be willing to submit to a background check
Experience with Microsoft Office Project Schedule
Strong knowledge of codes and good planning skills
Excellent written and communication skills
Required Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent
General background-related experience
