Position Summary

The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor will have a strong passion to lead a dedicated team of millwrights to eliminate maintenance losses and develop mechanical skills in the department. The Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor will be a leader in implementing improvements in departmental practices and is knowledgeable in optimizing preventative maintenance for all site mechanical equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Management of the Maintenance and Engineering Department Shift Millwrights using supervisory and leadership skills to provide coaching, development, and improvement processes when necessary. Provide feedback to the Maintenance and Engineering Manager on opportunities for group development.
  • Lead mechanical techs efforts to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, and fabrication equipment.
  • Coordinate with the Line Managers and the Maintenance Scheduler to schedule required mechanical planned, corrective, and preventative work during planned line shutdowns.
  • Work with the Maintenance Scheduler and the Storeroom Clerk to ensure that the required spare parts and resources for planned work are ordered and kitted correctly.
  • Promote safe work practices among the team. Identify and correct opportunities to improve equipment and procedural safety.
  • Safely manage contracted work per the Contractor Safety program when contracting out work for the site. This includes thorough review, auditing, and communication of work.
  • Coordinate with Planner / Scheduler to ensure that Preventative and Predictive Maintenance work orders are scheduled and performed when due and that resultant corrective work is promptly prioritized and performed.
  • Improve and optimize maintenance work practices including Standard Operating Procedures and Preventative Maintenance Procedures.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the Maintenance Scheduler in development of electrical work procedures.
  • Flexibility in augmenting work hours to support production lines with troubleshooting assistance and required contracted services.
  • Interpret SAP data to generate priorities and action list for improving reliability of site.
  • Present improvement opportunities and plans to Maintenance and Engineering Manager.
  • Willingness and ability to work extended hours including rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays, and be able to respond to calls at home.
  • Qualification Requirements

    Education and / or Experience

    Associate's degree required, Bachelor's degree preferred in mechanical field / engineering, 3+ years steel industry experience in maintenance / engineering, drive chain / power transmission rebuilding and troubleshooting experience, supervisory and leadership skills, proven written and verbal communication skills, problem solving. Strong mechanical fundamentals are preferred to assist in advanced troubleshooting and technical personnel development.

    Language Skills

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and specification drawings.

    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to work with and apply mathematical concepts, such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

    Reasoning Ability

    Demonstrated capability to develop effective maintenance strategies to reduce technical losses in manufacturing site. Experienced at using data to find the root cause of complex problems.

    Other Skills and Abilities

    Train & coach technical associates to be proficient in mechanical troubleshooting and theory. Recognize and develop talent within the team through special assignments and projects. Proven ability to effectively manage a team using leadership, organizational, and time management skills.

    Salary Range : This position's estimated annual base salary is $101,000.00 - $114,000.00. Actual base salary will be dependent on an individual's skills, qualifications, and experience. This role is eligible for 401k Savings plan, Healthcare (medical, dental and vision), and other generous rewards.
