Wastewater Collection Supervisor
The Wastewater Collection Supervisor is responsible for providing overall direction to a crew of Equipment Operators and Maintenance Technicians.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills :
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university or a combination of related education and technical experience;
- Valid Colorado Class 4 Wastewater Collection Certification or ability to obtain within 18 months from date of hire;
- 2-5 years' related experience in wastewater treatment and wastewater collection processes and functions with basic hands-on, mechanical experience and functional knowledge of pumps;
- Ability to operate excavating equipment;
- 1-3 years' supervisory experience desired;
- Colorado Class B CDL License and good driving record;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); proficient word processing and spreadsheet skills;
- Experience interpreting maps and construction drawings.
Essential Functions :
Counsel employees resolving informal complaints and grievances and be responsible for disciplinary action.Evaluate employee performance through setting goals, daily on-site supervision, informal feedback meetings with employees, formal evaluation meetings, and written performance evaluations.Communicate both verbally and written with citizens, supervisor, team members, and other City employees.Ensure that proper safety practices and procedures are followed by all work teams, i.e., work zone setup, traffic control, personnel protective equipment, etc. Identify and implement new safety policies and procedures. Enforce safety regulations.Answer citizens' questions, respond to their complaints and notify citizens of impending work.Assign and coordinate the work of outside contractors engaged in performing maintenance and repair work for the City.Order parts, supplies, and materials for division and effectively maintain inventory.Responsible for development and updating operational manuals for each program, outlining established methods and standards.Serve as a coach to a diverse work force and develop a teamwork environment.Assist Superintendent in developing and monitoring the division's annual budget and solicit recommendations from work teams.Responsible for the hiring process.Manage competing priorities with inflexible deadlines.Work tactfully in a stressful and demanding environment.Respond to overtime work and after-hour calls at all times and participate as a supervisor on call.Work Environment :
Work is split between a standard office environment and an outdoor environment. Subject to severe weather conditions of extreme heat and cold.Frequently works in or around equipment in potentially dangerous situations i.e. work zones, snow and ice covered streets, traffic and materials with fumes, noise, dust, dirt, heat, vibration, flying objects, etc.Responds to overtime work and after hour calls particularly during emergencies and inclement weather.Physical Requirements :
Regularly lift and / or move weights up to 25 pounds.
