Lockton’s Strategic Communication practice is currently seeking a Web and Graphic Designer / Front-End Developer responsible for bringing digital experiences to life through clean code, intuitive interfaces, and a deep understanding of user experience. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining high-quality, visually captivating, and user-friendly websites using WordPress. You’ll collaborate with our accounts team to deliver responsive, engaging, and performance-driven digital experiences. This role will also include some print / digital graphic design and production work.
- Design and develop WordPress websites from concept to completion, including mockups, layout, functionality, and aesthetics.
- Customize themes and plugins to meet specific client or project needs.
- Maintain and update existing WordPress websites, ensuring performance, security, and usability.
- Optimize website speed, performance, and SEO best practices.
- Stay up to date with WordPress trends, tools, and best practices.
- Develop reusable front-end components (e.g., navigation, forms, tables).
- Ensure digital experiences are intuitive, inclusive, and optimized for performance across devices and browsers.
- Support ongoing updates, enhancements, and optimizations for client websites and digital platforms.
- Keep up with evolving front-end technologies and contribute to the evolution of digital standards.
- Perform InDesign production work for materials such as guides, newsletters, flyers, and direct mail pieces.
- Contribute to the artistic direction of the team through design ideation.
- Migrate websites between hosting platforms.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed. Tasks include, but are not limited to, project tracking, project spreadsheet upkeep, and file maintenance.
- Must have an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related experience.
- Strong proficiency in InDesign is required.
- 2 years’ experience designing and developing websites using WordPress (portfolio required).
- Strong understanding of WordPress core, themes, and common plugins.
- Experience with SSO in WordPress is a plus but not required.
- Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and PHP.
- Advanced experience with themes and page builders such as Divi, Elementor, WPBakery, or Gutenberg.
- Solid grasp of UX / UI design principles and responsive design techniques.
- Knowledge of SEO fundamentals and web performance optimization.
- Strong communication and time management skills.
- Knowledge of the healthcare or benefits industry helpful but not required.
- Proficiency proofing in Word with track changes and with PDF documents; working knowledge of Workfront helpful but not required.
- Comfortable working in a collaborative setting and accepting constructive feedback.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills with experience reaching out for more information, clarification, additional tools, or assistance if needed.
- Proven ability to follow instructions and processes to complete assignments, requesting clarification if needed.
- Able to meet all deadlines set by the Strategic Communications leadership team.
