Overview
Dental Assistant 1 at Coyote Ridge Corrections Center, Connell, WA. Schedule : Monday-Friday 0730-1600. Join the Department of Corrections (DOC) to provide relief coverage as a dental assistant ensuring patient access to quality dental services and proper documentation in accordance with DOC policies.
Duties
- Direct chair-side assisting with diagnostic, preventive, periodontics, endodontic, oral surgery, prosthetics, and operative procedures.
- May perform reversible procedures (e.g., apply / remove matrix bands and wedges; remove cement around restorations; apply fluoride varnish).
- Expose and label digital radiographs (periapical, bitewing, panoramic, occlusal).
- Apply and remove rubber dams; maintain the field with high-volume evacuator and syringe; clean and disinfect operatory.
- Count instruments at start and end of each procedure; assist as directed by dentist.
- Set up treatment area, consult with dentist / hygienist concerning needs, ensure instruments, medications, and supplies are available; punctual with appointments; meet targeted patient treatment volume.
- Provide patient customer service and explain planned treatment; take radiographs as prescribed; maximize patient comfort.
- Educate patients on oral health, treatment options and consent; inform about DOC policies.
- Establish therapeutic relationships while preserving professional boundaries; address offender behavior; document infractions as appropriate.
- Maintain patient records and documentation (hardcopy and electronic) per statute, DOH, and DOC policy; input data in OMNI-HS; ensure integrity of dental records.
- Monitor dental equipment, supplies, inventory and logs; assist with clinic operations.
- Attend required staff meetings; write incident reports as directed.
Qualifications
Must be a certified Dental Assistant in the State of Washington with an unblemished registration to practice dental assisting with WA DOH.Current CPR certification; provide proof annually to facility leadership.Preferred : two years experience as a dental assistant; graduate of recognized program; experience with medical / dental documents and terminology; experience in correctional settings or community health clinic; knowledge of scheduling and patient visits; proficiency with computer applications.Additional information
