Job Summary

Maintains safe and secure environment for the school district staff, students, buildings and property through patrol of school building(s) and building perimeters, by patrolling and monitoring premises and personnel.

JOB TITLE : Security Officer

REPORTS TO : Director of Safety, Security, and School Readiness

WORK DAYS : 12 Months 260 Days

SALARY : Classified Salary Schedule 62 ($44,326 - $57,819)

LOCATION : Security Office

EXEMPT NON EXEMPT X

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Patrols all property belonging to the Birmingham Board of Education.
  • Appears in court as a witness representing the Board of Education, when someone is arrested for any violation of school board rules and regulations or city, state or federal ordinances.
  • Keeps buildings clear of people not on official school business.
  • Works with Police Department and assists law enforcement officers when necessary.
  • Confers with the Director or principal on matters of concern.
  • Attends safety and other meetings as requested by the Director.
  • Answers any problems connected with the schools, seven days a week.
  • Performs any other duties necessary to ensure safety, security and school readiness of all schools and facilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate equivalent.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of tasks assigned.
  • Ability to properly complete reports.
  • Five (5) years of security related experience.
  • SUCH ALTERNATIVES TO THE ABOVE QUALIFICATIONS AS THE BOARD MAY REQUIRE.
