Technical Assistant Position
The Page lab at the Whitehead Institute studies the differences between males and females in health and disease, integrating genomic, epigenomic, and transcriptomic datasets to generate comprehensive catalogs of sex differences across diverse tissues and cell types in multiple mammalian species, including both humans and model organisms important in pharmaceutical development.
Overall Responsibility :
The Page lab seeks a technical assistant to design, automate, and perform next generation sequencing experiments and collaborate on a variety of sex differences projects. The technical assistant will be responsible for generating sequence data, troubleshooting methods, improving and automating protocols, and maintaining sequencing equipment and supplies.
Characteristic Duties :
- In consultation with the Principal Investigator or other project manager, designs bench level experiments and small independent research projects.
- Supports laboratory staff in the design and automation of next-generation sequencing protocols
- Independently operates and maintains laboratory equipment, including contacting service providers for routine maintenance and repairs.
- Places orders for general lab consumables and maintains stocks of necessary reagents, and supplies.
- Performs analysis of experimental results by identifying methodological problems and helping to identify and implement modifications in research protocols.
- Documents, compiles, and assists in interpreting experimental data. Reports data to supervisor in oral and written reports.
- May assist Technical Associate or project manager with determining the order of research processes that best support essential project goals.
- Consults scientific literature and other resources as needed.
- Other tasks as required.
Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in biology or a field directly related to the work.Proficient in basic lab techniques and principles of molecular biology required.Knowledge of various scientific databases and publications preferred.Experience with at least one programming / scripting language required.Experience with laboratory automation and liquid handlers preferred.Experience with next-generation sequencing (Illumina and Nanopore) preferred.Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong organizational skills required.Whitehead Institute is an E-Verify employer.
