This Opportunity
WSP is seeking a Microsimulation Modeling Subject Matter Expert (P6) to lead the development, calibration, analysis, and quality control of advanced traffic simulation models. This position will provide technical leadership across North America, particularly in New York, on the use of PTV Vissim and PTV Vistro to support planning, design, and operations projects. The successful candidate will guide WSP teams and clients in applying simulation best practices, ensuring models meet FHWA, state DOT, and industry standards, and will play a key role in training, mentoring, and developing simulation capabilities across the organization.
Your Impact
- Lead and oversee the development, calibration, and analysis of complex microscopic and mesoscopic traffic simulation models (PTV Vissim and Vistro).
- Provide technical leadership and quality control reviews for WSP's simulation modeling projects, including large-scale multimodal corridor studies, freeway operations, and policy-level planning analyses.
- Develop workflows, guidance, and training materials to standardize simulation modeling practices across projects and geographies.
- Mentor and train staff on simulation development, calibration, and analysis through hands-on workshops, webinars, and project-based learning.
- Present modeling results and technical findings to clients, agencies, and stakeholders in meetings, public forums, and conferences.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (traffic engineering, planning, safety, ITS, TSMO) to integrate simulation results into broader project analyses and recommendations.
- Provide technical support in proposal writing, scoping, and business development for simulation-intensive projects.
- Stay current with evolving FHWA and state DOT modeling guidance, ensuring WSP remains an industry leader in simulation methodology and application.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related field (Master's preferred).10+ years of post-education professional experience in traffic simulation modeling.Recognized expertise with PTV Vissim and PTV Vistro, including experience with calibration, scenario analysis, and simulation-based workflows.Demonstrated success providing training, guidance, and technical support to engineers, planners, and public agencies.Proven ability to lead quality assurance / quality control reviews of simulation models at key project milestones.Experience developing workflows, methodologies, and documentation for simulation modeling best practices.Strong technical writing, presentation, and communication skills with the ability to convey complex modeling concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.Experience working on simulation-based projects for FHWA, state DOTs, and MPOs, with familiarity in applying federal / state guidelines.Ability to work independently while mentoring and collaborating with cross-functional project teams.Preferred Qualifications
Prior consulting or public agency experience in traffic simulation modeling.Published research, guidance, or peer-reviewed papers on simulation modeling.Active participation in ITE, TRB, SimCap, or similar professional organizations.

Compensation
Expected Salary (all locations) : $115,100-$205,040
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and / or federal law.
