Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide training to CMF Husbandry Staff and HSC Research Staff
- Provide new employee orientation to CMF Husbandry Staff.
- Provide new hire orientation to research staff
- Provide On-the-Job Training (OJT) to Husbandry Staff based on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to all facets of the Husbandry operations, including Cage Wash Facility training, animal health checks, use of specialized equipment, and animal husbandry.
- Provide basic hands-on training for new staff and researchers
- Educate research staff on all pertinent Federal, State, Local, and Institutional regulations and protocols.
- Assist Husbandry Operations Management with Husbandry Staff competency assessment
- Provide feedback of Husbandry Staff through continued observation and adherence to the SOPs specific to individual training tasks
- Assist Husbandry Operations Management with the documentation of training of CMF Husbandry Staff
- Providing feedback as to levels of progression and need for reassessment
- Assist with the writing and development of SOPs and training materials
- Consistent and ongoing review of documents relevant to the husbandry program
- Serve as a quality assurance representative to assess internal SOPs and good practices
- Support Husbandry program for monitoring effective sanitization throughout all CCM Animal Facilities.
- Maintain all documentation relevant to the water quality testing and sanitization monitoring program.
- Assist with CCM’s water quality testing
- Assist with the administration and implementation of CMF’s Staff Continuing Education Program.
- Assist with the administration and training of AALAS certification classes.
- Assist Operations Manager in placing all animal orders, with expertise in particular animal models and strains, in conjunction with the needs of the experimental protocol.
- Utilizes Lawson to process animal purchase requisitions.
- Provide backup relief for Husbandry Technicians and other duties and projects as assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Education and / or Work Experience
- A bachelor’s degree or its equivalent is required.
- 5 years’ experience in the laboratory animal field.
