Job Summary
- Participates in a summer professional development program for training as a peer mentor (August 11-13, 2025).
- Attends monthly training sessions during semester (Fall 2025 : dates TBD in consultation with peer mentor team).
- Makes up any missed training sessions in a timely fashion. Assist with training of peer mentor colleagues.
- Attends First Year Seminar class each day or participate in activities associated with an online First Year Seminar. Model good student behavior.
- Facilitates small group discussions.
- Creates and gives presentations on topics related to college success.
- Interacts on a regular basis with all students in course. Chat with students before and after class (as your schedule permits). Plan to be in contact with all students at least once a month (via email, messaging or some other means).
- Provides advice and referrals to students as needed. Consult with faculty partner and / or FYS Director as needed.
- Meets with all students 1 on 1 by the end of the fifth week of class unless another schedule for doing so is approved in consultation with faculty partner and FYS Director. Meet with students additional times as required by faculty partner. Meet with students on an as-needed basis.
- Meets with FYS Director 1 on 1 in middle of semester (around Week 8) and at end of semester (finals week).
- Meets regularly with faculty partner.
- Completes tasks as assigned by faculty partner.
- Responds to emails from FYS Director, faculty partner and other peer mentors in a timely manner.
- Consults with faculty partner (and FYS Director as needed) to address any problems in class.
- Holds 1 office hour per week. In consultation with faculty partner and FYS Director, may decide to hold more than 1 hour per week if appropriate.
- Completes evaluation of faculty partner at end of semester.
- Adheres to the Indiana University Code of Students Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct.

Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student enrolled on the South Bend campusCompleted at least 30 college creditsMinimum 3.0 cumulative grade point averageStudents also must have completed an FYS or equivalent courseSKILLS

Must be able to attend an in-person FYS class or be part of an online FYS class throughout the semester.
