Role of a Systems Administrator

Under close direction, responds to moderately complex desktop support tasks via telephone or remote connection to troubleshoot and fix computing device systems and application problems or route the incident to the appropriate personnel for problem resolution; assists with the installation, maintenance, monitoring and modification of the organization’s local and remote wide area network system.

Working shift will be Monday - Friday, 8AM-5PM.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Communicates with customers by telephone, voice messages, or e-mail to obtain requirements to fully document requests and incidents for input into the approved work flow tracking system. Maintains ownership throughout the process until ultimate resolution of the request or incident.
  • Resolves request / incident tickets from customers and provides support by telephone or remote connections to troubleshoot and fix customer department end-user problems.
  • Analyzes and resolves moderately complex application and data problems.
  • Assists with the design, specification, configuration, installation and maintenance of local, remote and wide area network hardware, software, and data communication services such as personal computers, system software, applications, printers, servers, modems, switches, cabling, and Internet service.
  • Tests, implements, and enforces policies and procedures related to network hardware and software acquisitions, use, support, and security.
  • Follows procedures to install, upgrade, configure, and maintain network devices, network printing, directory structures, rights, user environment, software, file services and related security issues.
  • Maintains documentation of network configuration, network maps and cabling plans.
  • May train users on software and equipment usage. Provides end user support.
  • May researches and evaluates system needs and new technologies.
  • Ensures licensing conformity for all extents of responsibilities.
  • Maintains inventory of hardware and software assets.
  • Assists in monitoring and maintaining network stability, and assists in the development and implementation of a disaster recovery plan.

Qualifications

  • Two years of related experience including experience with computer hardware (particularly IBM server line, AS / 400 iSeries, and NAS / SAN Technology) and computer software (particularly Microsoft Windows Server 2K3, 2K8 or 2K12, Microsoft Exchange 2K7, and / or 2K13, SQL servers, VMWare ESX).
  • Technical and professional principles, practices, laws, applications and programs in position related area including detailed knowledge of system administration and server hardware troubleshooting.
  • Current developments and trends in areas of expertise.
  • Experience with Cisco products, Citrix software, ActiveSync, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, Remote Desktop Services, Internet browsers, Active Directory and desktop operating systems.
  • Computer programs, including Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
