JOB SUMMARY

The Ultrasound Technologist -General operates ultrasound equipment under the supervision of a doctor to reveal internal, anatomical structures and medical conditions that cannot be captured by x-rays. Sonographers may specialize in examining specific areas of the body, for example : echocardiographers (heart), eco- encephalographers (brain), obstetrical / gynecological sonographers, and vascular technologists.

EDUCATION

Successful completion of diagnostic medical sonographer academic work and clinical training. Length of training depends on level : certificate, associate, or bachelor's degree.

LICENSURE

State specific; American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) exam and registration.

EXPERIENCE

At least one year of experience as Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in a clinical setting.

CREDENTIALS

Current CPR; and other health and screening tests as required by specific facilities and / or regulatory Agencies; ARDMS registration.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Various client facility settings; possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials.
