Medical Assistant

The Medical Assistant (MA) provides clinical support to patients and assists care providers with clinical and administrative support.

About the Clinic :

The Urology clinic covers a wide range of conditions, including patients with frequent UTIs, vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), hydronephrosis, urinary retention s / t complex issues, hydrocele, and procedures such as circumcisions and penile / labial adhesions. MAs assist with patient intake, vital signs, bladder scans, and urine collection for patients in clinic as well as ordering supplies, obtaining PAs for meds, and medical records from outside facilities. This is generally a fast-paced clinic so attention to detail, flexibility, and great time management skills are paramount in this specialty.

Department : Briargate Urology

Hours : 40 hours / week

Shift : M-F days. No weekend or holiday support is anticipated at this time.

Duties & Responsibilities :

Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and / or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment. Conducts quality checks.

Provides general office support including phone and fax management.

Serves as the preceptor for new staff, including orientation, education, skill validation, tracking, assessment and monitoring progress.

Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.

Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential.

Adheres to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission standards.

Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and / or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment. Reports areas of concern to next care provider.

Supports patient care delivery by assisting health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic testing; disposing of contaminated supplies; cleaning or preparing for sterilization of medical instruments; administering medications per policy and procedures; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies and other duties within scope.

Assists in balancing workloads, coordinates and maintains clinic flow by coordinating with providers, and monitoring patient flow.

Provides phlebotomy.

Completes lab test follow up and medical record documentation.

Prepares and completes medical record for visit by recording patient information, treatment, and test results. Assists with patient "MyChart" enrollment.

Participates in the standardized education of patients through written instructions and answering questions as directed by provider.

Independently initiates referrals and insurance pre-authorizations.

Minimum Qualifications :

EDUCATION - High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.

EQUIVALENCY - One year of experience in a direct health care role may substitute for graduation from a Medical Assistant program.

CERTIFICATION(S) - BLS for Healthcare Providers / CPR.

Preferred : Pediatric and / or ambulatory MA experience

Salary Information :

Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Hourly Range : $16.73 to $25.09
