Lecturer in Recreational Therapy

VIRGINIA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY (VWU) invites applications for a Lecturer in Recreational Therapy in the Department of Sport and Recreation Professions beginning in spring 2026 or fall 2026. A masters degree in Recreation Leisure Studies or a closely related field is required. Candidates must hold the Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) credential and ideally bring field experience that provides valuable real-world context for students.

The Departments two majorsRecreational Therapy and Sport and Recreation Managementare accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Parks Recreation Tourism and Related Professions (COAPRT). We are seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative educator to teach courses and provide direction within the Recreational Therapy major while contributing to the departments core curriculum.

The teaching load is four four-credit courses per semester. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching academic advising and student engagement as well as a passion for service consistent with the student-focused mission of our Department and University. This positions area of academic and professional focus is in Recreational Therapy with a demonstrated interest in partnerships leadership and program provision. Educational offerings within the Recreational Therapy major are supported by a long-standing tradition of collaboration with local agencies providing rich opportunities for internships and experiential learning. Faculty also have the option to pursue their interests through January Term summer sessions and online programs.
