Job Title : Remote Environmental Scientist (Must Live in Florida)
Job Description
We are seeking dedicated Environmental Scientists and Geologists to join our team in supporting the FDEP Petroleum Restoration Program as a Site Manager. In this role, you will oversee the assessment and remediation of petroleum-contaminated sites, working towards regulatory closure. You will act on behalf of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Petroleum Restoration program under the supervision of a licensed PG and / or PE.
Responsibilities
- Perform in-depth research of a contaminated site's history to understand the origin of the petroleum discharge(s) and site-specific geology and hydrogeology.
- Devise the appropriate scope of work to progress towards regulatory closure of the discharge.
- Generate assessment and remediation cost estimates and manage Agency Term Contractor purchase orders.
- Review and approve assessment and remediation documents, invoices, and other project-related documents promptly.
- Communicate regularly with Agency Term Contractor staff, property owners, and FDEP staff.
- Research assigned petroleum sites using various resources such as Google Earth and legal documents.
- Identify site ownership, the cause and timeline of the release, and potential impact on neighboring plots.
- Draft a scope of work for required actions including assessment, remedial design, remedial action, and monitoring.
- Select contractors through drafting RFPs, continuation assignments, or direct assignments.
- Negotiate on behalf of the FDEP.
- Monitor contractor status including schedule, budget, progress, and quality.
- Review and approve payment requests.
- Conduct a final review of work performed to recommend next steps, aiming for site closure.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 1 year relevant environmental consulting experience, including state petroleum program knowledge.Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or a related field.Ability to effectively review and prepare technical documents.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Postgraduate degree may substitute for one year of experience.Familiarity with Chapter 62-780, FAC, Petroleum Restoration Program procedures, and FDEP SOP 001 / 01 (field procedures) is a plus.Work Environment
This is a fully remote position, but candidates living near Tallahassee, Tampa, Orlando, or West Palm Beach are preferred. You will work closely with a team of 45 Geologists, Scientists, and Engineers, all working towards the goals set by the FDEP. The role allows for a healthy work-life balance with a 40-hour work week and no after-hours stress. While primarily remote, occasional visits to the FDEP office or field site may be required. The team culture emphasizes collaboration and support.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of West Palm Beach, Florida.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $26.00 / hr.
