We are recruiting for a highly skilled and experienced VP, Controller to add to our Accounting leadership team. This role will enjoy a hybrid working environment at our beautiful headquarters located on River Drive in Moline, IL. This facility includes a comfortable office environment with an on-site gym facility.

Summary of Position :

Reporting to the SVP of Finance, and as a key member of the IHMVCU team, we seek a knowledgeable person of integrity and credibility, who is proactive and a strategic thinker who will lead the accounting function. This role will contribute across a broad spectrum of activity, including planning and overseeing our accounting endeavors in projects, process improvement, and reporting.

Experience Required :

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Seven to ten years of practical experience managing accounting operations, as described above; five to ten years of practical experience in the preparation of regulatory and financial reports. Prior financial institution industry experience is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and state and federal regulations as applied to financial institutions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting, financial reporting, operations, and regulatory compliance in a credit union or bank setting.
  • At least 3 years of proven ability to lead, develop, and motivate staff.
  • Keen analytic, problem solving and communication skills which allows for strategic data interpretation and effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, or outside partners. Work collaboratively with business line leaders and finance and treasury team members.
  • Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance members.

Main Responsibilities :

  • Provide accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and management requirements.
  • Research and interpret new accounting regulatory pronouncements. Determine their financial and operational impact to the organization. Provide accounting guidance on various loan topics including CECL, loan participations, secondary market loan servicing, impaired loans, and repossessed assets. Derivative accounting knowledge is a plus.
  • Establish, maintain, and monitor internal accounting control systems to ensure safe / sound operations, accurate accounting records for the statement of the institution's financial condition, and timely, accurate report data for regulators and management.
  • Coordinate the month end close process, including intercompany eliminations and consolidations; monitor actual financial performance results compared to historical and budgeted results and identify and resolve any variances. Continually look for efficiencies and process improvements.
  • Oversee the Accounts Payable function to ensure consistent general ledger and detailed cost center accounting practices. Evaluate posting classifications as they relate to cost center and business line allocations.
  • Direct and oversee the Credit Union's regulatory reporting, primarily via the call report.
  • Provide oversight for accounting operations activities including accruals, prepaids, depreciation, and all other reconciliations. Provide support for loan participations and secondary market loan servicing reconciliations.
  • Train, mentor, and develop career pathing for accounting team members.
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally on ad hoc projects. Interact frequently with Finance and Treasury counterparts to achieve organizational efficiencies.
  • Achieve satisfactory exams, compliance reviews and audits.
