Rappahannock Community College (RCC) is seeking applicants for a part-time Library Programs & Outreach Specialist position. This position works 29 hours / week at our Warsaw campus. The anticipated hiring range is $19.00 – $21.00 per hour without benefits, commensurate with experience. Reporting to the Circulation Manager, this position serves as the library’s representative in the community and promotes support for the library. The Library Programs & Outreach Specialist serves the Learning Resources Center primarily for outreach and programming for college and public library events. The incumbent also acts as the Richmond County Public Library (RCPL) youth services specialist (children and young adult) and provides outreach and programming for all ages and demographics within the community. This position also provides library marketing to young patrons and their families and helps maintain RCPL’s social media.

Responsibilities Plan, organize, coordinate, promote and deliver high-quality library programs for children, young adults, adults, senior citizens, and RCC students on both campuses.

Coordinate the Summer Reading Program, including planning, organizing, implementing, evaluating, contacting presenters, and all duties necessary to make the program successful.

Coordinate National Library Week, National Children’s Book Week, and other annual events that bring patrons into the library.

Provide basic reference services at the Library Service Desk to students, faculty, the college, and the public community.

Utilize the Integrated Library System – Alma (ILS) to perform circulation duties, including patron processing, discharging library materials, processing bad debt, and other duties as assigned by the Circulation Manager.

Perform special assignments and other duties as assigned; may assist the agency or state government in emergencies.

Qualifications (KSA's / Required) Specific experience working with children.

Demonstrated excellent customer service skills.

Experience using a variety of computer applications and software; ability and eagerness to learn new technologies related to learning resources.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with a diverse population of children, students, parents, faculty, administrators, and community patrons.

Ability to plan, organize and implement events and programs.

Ability to perform duties accurately with attention to detail and in a timely manner.

Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Must be able to work Saturdays on rotation.

Additional Considerations Experience in an educational environment.

Library work experience.

Working Arrangements & Travel Operation of a State Vehicle : Yes

Travel : This position requires occasional travel to the Glenns campus.
