The job of the Assistant Girls Basketball Coach is to support the Head Coach in coordinating organizing promoting and operating the girls basketball program to meet the needs and interests of student-athletes the school and the community. The Assistant Coach provides effective leadership demonstrates professionalism and ethical conduct and contributes to a positive and supportive team culture. This role also involves building healthy relationships with student-athletes parents and the community.
This job reports tothe Athletic Director / Assistant Principal.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Coachesindividual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievementin the sport involved.
- Followsthe system of play to be used as affirmed by the Head Coach.
- Plans andschedules a regular program of practice in season in concert with the HeadCoach and the Athletic Director / Assistant Principal
- Worksclosely with the Head Coach in matters pertaining to scheduling andfinance.
- Provides supervision for athletes in the dressing room and during practice as wellas to and from home on away games.
- Maintains necessary attendance forms insurance records etc.
- Promotesgood sportsmanship fair play ethical conduct good scholarship anddesirable pupil / teacher relationships.
- Oversees at all times that students are present the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted.
- Followsestablished performance criteria for eligibility in interscholasticcompetition in his / her sport.
- Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times and establishes andoversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
- Recommends to the Head Coach the purchase of equipment supplies and uniforms as appropriate.
- Responsiblefor the care of equipment supplies and physical properties of the sport.
- Submitsan inventory for the sport immediately following the close of the season.
- Requiressubmission of athlete turn-out forms signed by the Athletic Director / Assistant Principal prior to issuing equipment for the sport.
- Responsiblefor securing the home facility after a home or away game contest if the custodians are not available.
- Excludes athletes from practice or game if they have been truant or received anunexcused absence that day.
- Turns in the following to the Activities Director : a) a roster with all necessary personal data at least one week before the first game b) a list of award winners immediately following the seasonc) a list of transfer students so that state certification can promptly be accomplishedd) a list of season scores and any outstanding items of the season.
- Prepares athletic team roster two days prior to teams being excused from school and turns it in to the Activities Director.
- Provides the manager with a list of all duties he / she is to perform on practice days and days of games.
- Attends all organizational meetings as required by the Athletic Director / Assistant Principal.
