At the beginning of each academic year, all professional expert, short-term, substitute, and student employees with an assignment which will exceed 30 days will be provided with five days (40 hours) of paid sick leave. This paid sick leave is available to be used for an illness of the professional expert, short-term, substitute, and student employee or his / her family member and / or for leave due to domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking. A professional expert, short-term, substitute, and student employee shall be entitled to use such sick leave as of the 90th day of employment. The five days (40 hours) of paid sick leave do not accumulate.
General Description / Summary GENERAL DESCRIPTION / SUMMARY
The Black Scholars Program Coordinator performs a full range of administrative, programmatic, and technical duties in support of the Black Scholars Program. The Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for Black Scholars students and assists students by streamlining access to all available resources and opportunities. This position supports with coordinating events, meeting with students, and connecting students with resources related to financial aid, counseling, internships, externships, and academic support services.
Minimum Qualifications / Education and Experience MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- An associate degree, or the completion of at least sixty (60) college-level semester units
- One year of experience working in a student services-oriented role at a community college or other college / university.

Performs a full range of technical, program support, case management, and clerical dutiesCoordinates with other departments and program areas to increase visibility and success for the Black Scholars studentsServes as a District representative on various committees and other student related projects associated with the programRefers students to applicable community, business, and governmental agencies as well as appropriate student and academic support servicesMonitors social media and creates posts that increases profile and program engagementDevelops promotional and informational materials for distribution on and off campusCollaborates with colleagues to coordinate the Men of Color Initiative and represents the Black Scholars Program on the initiative workgroupUnderstands and ensures compliance with state and federal regulationsIdentifies and resolves operational / administrative problem areas and issuesPlans, organizes, schedules, and conducts orientations, workshops, seminars, class presentations, meetings, and other activities related to the Black Scholars ProgramArranges and confirms speakers; reserves facilities and makes other necessary arrangements for events and activitiesMonitors the program budget; makes recommendations regarding allocation of resources and expenditure of fundsCollects, compiles, tabulates, and records narrative, statistical, and financial data and other information and prepares appropriate forms, schedules, and reportsSummarizes, inputs, and reviews data to prepare special and periodic reports including fiscal reports, program plans, progress reports, and other narrative and statistical reports as required and in accordance with District and external agency requirementsEstablishes and maintains records including confidential student recordsMaintains and generates reports from a database or network systemAttends professional meetings, workshops, and stays abreast of new trends and maintains a working knowledge of information related to area of assignmentCoordinates and oversees the daily operations and activities of the Black Scholars ProgramPrepares a variety of clear and concise administrative and financial records; Implements and maintains organized and accurate digital file and record keeping systemsResponsible for the Black Scholars Program’s day-to-day operations, tracking the number of students served, website maintenance, outreach efforts, and drafting well-written communications to the campus community and / or external partners and organizationsCoordinates Black Scholars Program student volunteer assignments and verifies completion of service hours performedAssists the Counseling and Advisement Center with other duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills and Abilities KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

The Counseling and Advisement Center’s schedule during the Fall and Spring semesters is Monday and Thursday 8 : 00 a.m. – 5 : 00 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday 8 : 00 a.m. – 7 : 00 p.m. and Fridays 8 : 00 a.m. – 4 : 30 p.m. Hours may vary based on community or campus events / activities and office needs. Some evenings and weekends may apply. This is an in-person position, 20 hours per week.
