What You’ll Do Here
Want to help teachers teach and learners learn? Join a team of technical writers who work with technical product managers, development, support, marketing, and user experience teams to help customers effectively use our learning platforms and tools. You will also support internal partners by helping to structure and organize information for findability.
Accurate, clear, and relevant help information that is both highly usable and reusable
Clear and effective UI text and UI text patterns
Technical writers perform according to five key dimensions :
Agile information development : Work to deliver value quickly for our customers by creating, refining, and developing against user stories, epics, and bugs in our team backlog. Identify impediments or scope creep and help with prioritization. Participate in standups, retrospectives, planning, and doc releases.
High quality work : Develop information centered around the user’s needs, using attention to detail to assure that the information is accurate, structured for usability and reuse, and adheres to style guidelines and standard methodologies. Help ensure quality by peer reviewing other writers’ pull requests.
Effective partner collaboration : Collaborate across the organization and within the team; interview partners and subject matter experts; resolve conflicts; and communicate status. Give and receive constructive feedback in peer reviews and with others as needed.
Continuous improvement : Push yourself to continuously improve by honestly assessing both successes and challenges, identifying potential solutions, and testing those solutions in practice. Share your learning with the team and others as relevant.
Team leadership : Share your expertise and contribute to a culture of team excellence that celebrates successes and learns / recovers from setbacks.
Skills You Will Need Here
2+ years’ work experience writing user‑focused software documentation.
Experience writing application microcopy / UI text.
DITA experience, including content reuse (topics, conrefs, keys, branch filtering).
Version control with Git or equivalent (Mercurial, Subversion).
Exceptional written and visual communication skills with a proven record to “make the complicated simple.”
Outstanding multitasking ability to shift gears among concurrent projects and changing business needs; prioritize work effectively.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills; experience collaborating with partners across many areas and departments, including product management, UX, sales / marketing, and customer support.
Understanding of Agile principles and practices, with experience participating with cross‑functional Agile development teams.
Keen ability to identify real‑world user needs and workflows and to use that understanding to inform your work.
Can apply standard accessibility practices to documentation.
Knowledge of HTML and CSS.
Knowledge of UX principles.
