SENIOR ACCOUNTANT (Permanent)
Our client, a civic organization in WNY, is looking to hire a Senior Accountant to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a resident of the City of Buffalo who is a self-starter and has a keen eye for detail.
Responsibilities :
- Perform daily accounting responsibilities for upwards of 20 entities to ensure contributing to the overall financial success of the municipality
- Prepare complex journal entries ensuring financial information is up to date and accurate and assist with timely posting
- Maintain general ledgers for all entities, conducting account reconciliations regularly
- Perform monthly audit of bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy of accounting staff
- Prepare financial reports to include payroll-related items, contract reviews, monthly variance & analysis reports, and grant activities
- Manage fixed asset schedule
- Participate in internal / external audits by generating reports and providing accurate documentation
- Assist with Accounts Payables / Receivables by reviewing documents, ensuring accurate information and processing in a timely manner
- Manage the review and processing of loan packages, setting up encumbrances in HUD system, and verify the availability of the funds
- Track budget vs. availability to ensure accuracy in accounting system and proper eligibility of expenses relative to the programs
- Collaborate with various internal team members to conduct project cost reconciliations
- Provide excellent customer service to internal / external team members
- Ensure compliance is maintained at all times
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of government accounting standards and emerging regulations
- Complete special projects in a timely manner
- Work well in a team environment as well as independently
- Other duties as assigned / as necessary
