Position Summary

The Instructional Technology Professional develops and maintains web-based continuing education courses and custom multi-media learning objects while supporting staff and subject matter experts in the creation of course content, the use of instructional multi-media, learning management systems, and best teaching practices. Work is implemented through design and development, consultation, and evaluation. The individual is experienced in instructional design, knowledgeable in teaching and learning processes, skilled with select multimedia tools, trained in the use of various learning management systems, and fluent in common web development languages.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and / or Competencies

  • Proficiency in software and computer skills related to the profession, including word processors, eLearning authoring software, graphic design and web development tools, and HTML editors.
  • Aptitude for developing and editing within at least 3 learning management systems, including Brightspace by Desire2Learn (preferred).
  • Convey a positive, professional demeanor.
  • Demonstrate agile communication skills both verbally and clerically.
  • Exhibit the ability to be self-directed and motivated in the completion of all tasks.
  • Use advanced problem-solving skills and deductive reasoning.
  • Work with equal competence both independently and in a team environment.
  • Organize time and resources in order to multi-task successfully.

Design and develop online courses and multimedia learning objects.

  • Develop, maintain, and manage web-based continuing education courses within the established learning management system.
  • Perform specialized tasks (including coding with a variety of internet-based languages, formatting interfaces of web applications, programming web-based assessments, and employing eLearning authoring software) that lead to the creation of exceptional learning objects and courses that are visually appealing and enhance understanding and content retention.
  • Produce and edit original media to be used for either educational or promotional purposes, with appropriate development tools and design criteria while incorporating artistic, innovative, and creative style.
  • Create and develop online assessments for all continuing education courses and determine creative solutions for asynchronous learning measurement.

    Uphold standards of quality in all products through evaluation, assessment, and revisions.

  • Establish consistent standards of quality throughout all deliverables by completing detailed reviews of all output.
  • Evaluate learning content in order to make recommendations for course design, multimedia and interactive enhancements, and supplemental materials.
  • Provide constructive feedback for content deliverables to course authors (including inaccuracies in writing for web, irregularities in consistency, and errors in grammar or punctuation).
  • Review accessibility in all products and revise in order to make courses and multimedia learning objects compliant according to Section 508 standards.

    Demonstrate expertise in instructional technology during collaboration and consultation with project stakeholders and internal staff.

  • Collaborate with internal and external staff, faculty, and clients in order to improve continuing education courses, elevate user experience, and streamline processes.
  • Encourage and challenge subject matter experts and program coordinators to deliver instruction and content in new ways and demonstrate for the pedagogical opportunities that technology provides.
  • Consult on and make recommendations for various technical and instructional solutions for staff, instructors, and students, using problem-solving skills, deductive reasoning, and prior knowledge of best practices.
