Our client is looking for a Progress OpenEdge Database Engineer who will be responsible for administering highly available OLTP and business database services in a Cloud environment. This will include opportunities to contribute to developing automation to deploy and maintain Progress OpenEdge infrastructure in a DBaaS environment. You will work with DevOps engineers to provide or improve :
WHAT YOU GET TO DO
- Perform core database administration tasks including administering high-availability, recoverability, provisioning and configuration, security, performance tuning and troubleshooting.
- Performance analysis, optimization tuning and startup options for Progress OpenEdge.
- Resolution of incidents related to database infrastructure.
- Provide analysis for High Impact incidents with Corrective Action recommendations.
- Perform POC analysis and documentation for complex business critical database processes.
- Monthly vulnerability patching for RedHat based systems.
- Automation development and implementation of Progress OpenEdge management processes.
- Development, implementation and tuning of Database alerting and availability monitoring.
- Develop and implement cloud infrastructure solution as part of our database product offerings.
- Develop database as a service and automation for Progress OpenEdge with Unix Scripting, Python, etc.
- Develop scripts for database administration and monitoring.
- Manage and monitor database backups, Log File Management, Cleanup, dump / load, storage management and data growth.
- Security administration in OS / Progress, user access definition, user access management, monitoring and maintaining security of the Production environments.
- Leverage the latest and greatest AWS Cloud technologies as you build and innovate.
- Embrace end-to-end ownership and DevOps practices : design, code, test, deploy and monitor your solutions in providing direct value to the Database Team.

WHAT YOU BRING
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field of study and 10 years of experience required.Ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust Clearance.Progress / OE Database version 11.7.x experience is a must and OE12 experience is preferred.AWS management and migrations services for Progress OpenEdge systemsProficient in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 and 8Understanding of Database architecture, design and indexing of Progress DBProgress / OpenEdge installations, upgrades / maintenance, and configurationProgress / OpenEdge Auditing featureProgress / OpenEdge Database Replication managementBasic knowledge of Progress 4GL programmingProficient with Storage Areas, Before and After Image File Monitoring and ManagementExperience of maintaining large production / live databases in an enterprise levelExperience with AWS or willingness to learnDatabase troubleshooting skills and expertise with disaster recovery on failureCore database administration competencies include high-availability, recoverability (backup\restore), installation and configuration, security, performance tuning and troubleshooting.Configuration and administration of Progress OpenEdge database security and access permissions.Proficient in Unix Shell Scripting and writing KSH / BASH shellSupporting Progress OpenEdge databases in an enterprise-level production environment.Experience should also include DevOps framework, including participation in Agile / Scrum development process with two-week sprint deployments.Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.Nice To Have
MS SQL experienceExperience with programming languages : Have proficiency with Python or other object-oriented programming languages such as JAVA, etc.Experience with container technologies.Must be able to work for a US based company without requiring visa sponsorship.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Hourly contract rate range of $70.00 to $79.00 based on experience and qualifications, as well as geographical market and business considerations.Your well-being is important to Wimmer Solutions.
