JOB SUMMARY
Assists with basic patient care based on individual patient needs within the scope of practice under direct supervision of the registered nurse.
Maintains environment that is prepared for patient care.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provides supportive care to the Emergency Department patients under the direct supervision of the registered nurse or physician.
Takes documents and reports vital signs. Reports abnormal results immediately to the registered nurse.
Notifies appropriate licensed personnel when a patient complains of pain.
Receives and carries out instructions accurately and promptly. All patient care activities are delegated and supervised by the registered nurse.
Transports patients, as necessary. Assists with moving, ambulating and lifting patients.
Documents patient care performed, including vital signs, bedside care and observations.
Adheres to hospital policy addressing standard precautions, safety regulations.
Communicates in an effective manner with all coworkers, patients, visitors and physicians.
Responds to patient and visitor questions and needs immediately and appropriately
Maintains patient comfort and privacy.
Maintains and prepares rooms between patients and procedures.
Monitors stock and restocks supplies as needed.
Maintains policies and procedures established by the department.
Assists in cost containment through the appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies
Demonstrates ability to work effectively as a team member; supports and assists the team.
Enhances growth and development through participation in educational programs.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Attends annual review and department in-services, as scheduled
Attends at least 80% of staff meetings annually, reads and returns missed monthly staff meeting minutes
Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices
Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility as well as the focus statement of the department.
BASIC SKILLS
Basic computer skills
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
High School Diploma or GED
BLS Certification within 30 days
EMT Certification preferred
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
Additional languages a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs. alone.
May be required to assist with patients or equipment up to 500 lbs.
Ability to walk or stand for up to 75% of the time.
Ability to push, pull, lift, bend, kneel twist and reach above shoulder level.
