Purpose

University Unions proudly offers a comprehensive range of services across multiple buildings on campus. Our spaces include meeting and performance venues, administrative offices, dining operations and recreational facilities like our bowling alley and cutting-edge Esports spaces.

We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a full time Facilities Technical and Maintenance Staff for the University Unions.

The location for this position is the Texas Union Building, 2308 Whitis Avenue, Austin, TX 78712. This position reports to the Facilities Maintenance Manager and has the following duties and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and evaluate the need for repairs using knowledge of commercial building construction, electrical, plumbing and interior building construction; including, but not limited to reading blueprints, circuit breakers, ballasts, pump motors, floor drains, water mains, steam and chill water pipes, sump pumps, wall and reparation, carpentry, door hanging and framing, floor and wall tile, ceiling grid, painting.
  • In collaboration with the Senior Retail Manager and Retail Manager, review general maintenance needs for the area.
  • Follow Fire, Environmental and HAZMAT safety codes and regulations; including fire alarms, exhaust vents, MSDS sheets, grease traps, and warning labels, tags and signs.
  • Maintain knowledge of / adhere to compliance regulations and codes for Federal, State and University requirements.
  • Use a desktop computer for email, timesheets and reports.
  • Order and maintain a minimum inventory of parts for machines to reduce downtime and increase repair efficiency. Provide an inventory of these parts by quantity and cost.
  • Assist in the inventory tracking of tools and equipment. Responsible for the safe and secure maintenance of tools and equipment, ensuring their life expectancy.
  • Perform job responsibilities in a safe and secure manner, ensuring the safety of students, staff and patrons regarding tools, equipment and work areas.
  • Drive a university or personal vehicle for errands or transport between the University Unions facilities.
  • Use a desktop computer for email, timekeeping, service work orders and other related business needs.
  • Driving Required

    This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

    Required Qualifications

  • High school graduation or GED.
  • Five years of experience in maintenance and repair in a crafts trade or facilities maintenance to include any combination of experience in electrical, plumbing or carpentry.
  • Experience in commercial building construction, particularly with building materials and blueprints.
  • Experience in interior building construction and repair. Experience with safety and handling heavy and light materials, indoor and outdoor tools and equipment.
  • Experience with environmental and HAZMAT safety.
  • Experience using a desktop computer.
  • Experience following basic work instructions.
  • Ability to read and understand work orders, written instructions, product labels and instructions, and other written job materials.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to be an effective team member.
  • Flexibility is key for this position.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience working at a university
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with supervisors and peer groups in a timely and effective manner.
  • Salary Range

    40,000+ Depending on qualifications.

    Work Shift

    Sunday - Thursday : 10 : 00 AM - 7 : 00 PM. Occasional weekends and peek operational needs may affect this schedule.

    Employment Eligibility :

    Retirement Plan Eligibility :

    The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
